But, for some of the residents of those islands in the target zone, couldn't they have been evacuated by the govt to other Bahamian islands not in the path?
I mean, what wasn’t in the path

I’m a weather nerd and keep up with this stuff and I’m just trying to think of a hurricane parking like Dorian while staying at least a high 4.
Has this ever happened?
I know storms like Harvey and Carmen stalled after landfall but at lower strength.
Stalling and staying a 5 or high 4 for this long?
Is there a precedent?
No expert here, but I’ve been fascinated and followed hurricanes since Andrew in ‘92 and I’ve never seen a major cat5 stop like this.
I’ve never seen one go to zero miles per hour as a Cat 4. This is unprecedented imo.
ETA: it’s essentially a tornado, hurricane, tsunami sitting on top of you for hours. Never seen anything like this.

Right? Let’s evacuate them to another shanty town on another island. They aren’t putting these people in the resorts and they likely don’t know people with larger, sturdier, higher homes well enough to go there or they would. The schools aren’t solid enough to shelter them in many areas. Are they supposed to just shuffle them from one island to another?

A lot of the Bahamas.
Dorian is on the move. I am looking at different maps and they are looking like it will have moved about 20 miles to the NW by 1 am, EST. It appears to be a total of a little over 30-35 expected by 6 am.

Maybe put a little back in case of emergency? Oh I forgot we cant encourage poor people to save for emergencies.
Some of them are lucky if they make 40 in an entire fricking day.

Looks like some of the cloud tops may be cooling again, especially to the south of the center.

Yes. That’s what they do.
However, the problem is, when and how they get back to their home island.
If they get shuttled to a neighboring island they never know when or how they will get back. So they just don’t leave.

Maybe feed her to some bears.
PETA would consider that animal abuse. And for once I'd agree with them.

Last few frames of the IR show the eye wobbling south southeast.

What hook? I simply recall it being said that Cat 4-5 storms went where they wanted.

Its always weird to me how these things never really look THAT bad on radar
Of course I know it’s a monster

It's a bit of an illusion. Dorian isn't moving at all.

I'm not sure exactly why but radar doesn't often do tropical rain justice. When you turn over to the velocities though...you get the idea pretty clearly.

There was a big discussion on that in this thread last night. You should read a little of it.
