What was the gist? It really was what was said a decade ago.
While hurricanes are locally intense low pressure systems with locally destructive winds and rains and are a couple of hundred miles across, they are tiny and weak compared to the massive continent sized high pressure features that are thousands of miles across and actually push hurricanes around.

The average Bahamian has neither.

Hurricanes are subject to larger meteorological features in terms of where they go. They ride the edge around high pressures, dips in the jet stream pick them up. A hurricane is like a whirlpool traveling in a stream. It follows the flow of the stream. There is a storm 100 miles away from Miami and there's no panic there because the experts at the NHC understand what steers a hurricane and have ample reason to know it will end up going north and away. If they just "did what they want", you'd think there would be evacuations from Miami right now because they wouldn't be predictable.
Yes, a forecast isn't going to be exactly right and they do miss some but it's been a long time since the hurricane center just whiffed on a large scale movement within 3 days.
A storm can influence it's local environment in some ways but not the overall steering.

Can’t imagine tracking or preparing for hurricanes 100+ years ago. It’s a pleasant sunny day then there’s a passing shower which is actually a rain band. Wonder how many people thought the eye of the hurricane was the end of the storm? Fascinating and scary to think about.
No wonder so many people died in the Galveston hurricane.

It was about some hurricane hunter who went to Abaco. The guy has a big hipster beard. It said that some school he was in as a shelter collapsed and he hasn’t been heard from. There were some responses saying bs so that may be why it was deleted.

It's Josh Morgerman.

Josh Morgerman.
It is a little concerning that no one seems to know anything about his whereabouts. Jim Edds was able to get word to some people that he was alright.
Sounds like that post was deleted because the school that collapsed was a different school from where Josh was riding out the storm.
Not that any collapsed school is good news

Moron, those aren't Bahamian's.

Morgerman hasn’t been heard from in almost 36 hours. Last update he was in a shelter wrapping kids in blankets.

Someone reported to Reed Timmer saying they spoke with him briefly shook up but not harmed

Good. I've seen conflicting rumors bouncing around.
Also, an insane experience for him says a whole lot.

All that money you see aren’t Bahamian's. You can’t be that naive to think so
