Yes, it can be evacuated, but not at this point.

So Rummy are they a responsible people who perhaps did evacuate? I'm female and soft and all but damn I can't imagine anyone surviving there in what I picture as not well made homes. I've never been there so my picture may not be right.

What’s the highest point on Abaco?

There are a few spots that I would guess are 50+ feet but most of the island (marsh harbor area) is flat.

Homes there are typically stout. Bahamas is basically South Florida. They have infrastructure and some money...not like Haiti or some other poor islands. And they are used to experiencing strong hurricanes.

Nothing can take that except a bomb shelter. That’s like being in a badass tornado for 24 hours.

Surprisingly or maybe not, there are plenty of solid concrete homes there.

The smal islands off Abaco like Green Turtle Cay are going to be devastated. They have probably been hit like this at some point in history but not in anyone that is living today’sLifetime. Godspeed to the Abacos and the rest of the Bahamas.

There is a resort hotel on Marsh Harbour, the northeast tip of Abaco. They spoke to the general manager and he said they are about 20 ft. above sea level, with high wind ratings and generators. They are taking people in to ride it out. Their government has been telling people to get to shelters.

WTF kind of shelter can take this? 175 sustained is a fricking nightmare.

That’s damn near a 90 degree turn. Prayers to those folks on the coast that it actually happens.

If they are talking about the Abaco Beach Resort, I have been there and no way in hell would I ride it out there. It’s basically a 3 story concrete hotel but it sits directly in the beach near the marina.
