North Alabama in general is not known for its cuisine. They put mustard on their BBQ after all.

These news articles and data are so misleading. The numbers are purely the population within the city limits. Population within Birmingham City Limits is 210k but the Birmingham Metro is 1.3M. Population if Huntsville Metro is under 500k.

Im not denying Huntsvilles rise, just want to point out the skewed headline. In fact I think Tuscaloosa Metro (with Northport) is growing faster and has more population than Huntsville. But since the data is broken down to "city" you get these types of news reports.

ETA: no looks like Tuscaloosa Metro is 250k

No, it's not. On both accounts.

How are the public schools?

Supposedly some of the best in the nation in Madison City.

Huntsville High is still pretty good from what I've been told. Grissom has gone downhill quite a bit though. The rest of the Huntsville City Schools suffer from the same culcha problem you see everywhere else (and is why Grissom went downhill after the Obama admin ruling).

Madison City is top notch for sure.

Huntsville is propped up by government welfare. Take away all the useless and redundant government jobs there and it would be no different than any other pitiful city in Alabama.

NASA is white collar welfare for a bunch of folks to play make believe. It’s a joke.

I left HSV 22 yrs ago and don't miss it a single day. Not a bad town, just don't miss it. When I go back now to see family I hardly recognize the place any more.
