How do you guys feel about Fort Payne? Considering moving there for work next year instead of my Indiana deal.

This is basically the entire USA right now. Unemployment is super low and job vacancy rates are super high. Where I live (city over 25k in 12 sq miles) our unemployment rate is 1.8%. Technology acceleration outpaced education. The divide between the fit for the labor and those not fit is growing very fast. Jobs that can’t be filled increase while menial jobs are being eliminated.

Median household income in Huntsville is only $55k.

And yet there is a large portion of voters who think letting millions of menial laborers into this country is the best way to go.
We need less neck down people, not more.

I guess that’s boom town money in Alabama

I’ve lived in Huntsville my entire life (under 40). The amount of growth over the past 15 years is insane, but the past 2-3 have really ratcheted it up a notch. For what it is, it’s a super nice place. It could use some more “stuff” to do, but it’s great for a family and (as someone that travels the southeast for my work) there’s not but a couple of other places I’d consider living.

Now try Madison @ 92K +. All the money lives West of Huntsville proper.

Meh. Never say never, but I’d rather live outside of SSC instead of MSFC.

That's still lower than what it is in Prairieville, La.

Beautiful, beautiful area but hillbilly as frick.
Jackson, Etowah, Dekalb, Marshall, and Cherokee counties are really the only true part of Appalachia in Alabama. You can throw Blount, Calhoun, St. Clair, and Talladega in there if you want, but it's not as strong.

The traffic here is insane and it's only getting worse each day. The infrastructure is going to be decades behind where it needs to be. Madison is all 2 lane roads that gridlock north to south multiple times each day. And there's no solution for it.
I've been here for almost 2 years and I'm not impressed. For all the traffic and congestion and headache theres basically not much to do really. It's big city traffic without any of the benefits. /rant

All these Madison losers pretending they live in Huntsville. I never deal with traffic. Lived here 11 years. There certainly isn't big city traffic anywhere, including the generic strip mall haven of Madison.

If you never get on 565 in the morning and evening I guess you can avoid it. There is no avoiding it in Madison though.

Is office slang for correctional facility?

Do you have any contacts doing any real estate speculation in the area? Lots of money pouring in there from Nashville, if I could find a quality PM there I’d be open to moving on a few properties there

At one time a few years back, Hunstville further enjoyed unusually low home prices compared to other cities in Alabama (Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Mobile) Not sure if that's still applicable.
Housing is still dirt cheap here around $100 sqft

Want to move to San Diego? My company (largish defense contractor) is looking for a couple of SQL guys for our new PLM system implementation.
I'll side gig it remotely.

Traffic here is very tame comparatively. I love when people complain about the traffic. They’ve never been to a medium to large city in the U.S. otherwise they wouldn’t think trafffic is bad.

Yes, you want land, single family, MFH, or comm?

Bingo, been that way for awhile. It's extremely overrated, I don't like going down there. I'm glad I've been reassigned to the eastern portion of the valley.

Never seemed that bad to me either, Atlanta on the other hand. Chattanooga has it's moments due to poor interstate design and the ridge.
