Remember the biggest thing about taking our 8th grade field trip to the capital was getting a picture with my finger in the bullet holes still in the walls..

I had similar aspirations of putting my fingers in holes in the 8th grade.

There’s a very good book about this, called Accident and Deception, written by Donald Pavy, MD (was related to Judge Pavy, hence his interest in the subject). He did years of research, and spoke to people with intimate knowledge of the event.

Had to correct to Glenn Watts Road. It's right off of Hooper near Zoar Baptist Church.

Some book, maybe T Harry's explained that an undiscovered slug (45 cal) lay under Longs liver and caused him to bleed to death. Assumption was that bodyguards opened up in that marble hallway and ricochet hit Long. Book also included great story on Long at pep rally for away Tenn game asking students about riding train to Knoxville. Someone advised that tickets had gone up and no one could afford. Long called an aide over who made a call to railroad that "bridge" tariffs could increase for tracks, and magically tickets became cheaper...creating a crowd on train.

Huey was destined for greatness

Believe me, Louisiana's taxpayers are still having to live with Huey Long and his family's greatness to this day. Not sure we could handle more greatness. We're not like Jason Kelce in the NFL Sunday Ticket commercial.

This will be an unpopular statement, but the holes are not bullet holes. They are flaws in the marble and they happened long after the shooting. Now it is such an interesting tale, it is regarded as truth.

Bunch of catholic high grads trying to take up for one of their own. All mad because someone from north La dared to break up the power structure of BR and New Orleans

Fascinating history. The Great Depression really brought out some worldwide characters in the 1930s.

while I agree with much of the criticism of Long, and I even think it's sort of possible Weiss didn't kill him, Schlesinger is a very flawed person to be delivering the message about Long's flaws. He was a toady, a craven bootlicker of the Kennedys who idolized FDR. Of course he would hate Long and play up his bad tendencies because Long was opposed to FDR and might have challenged him for the Democratic nomination from the left, had he lived.
