With a paid day off from work
Posted on 6/10/22 at 3:14 pm to Cole Beer
Probably eat some Eggs Benedict for breakfast, play a little tennis in the morning, then go to an art museum in the afternoon, and finish up watching reruns of Friends in the evening.
You know, normal Juneteenth stuff.

I am gonna go to wal mart, stuff some honey ham in my pants, and walk on out without paying.

Probably get out the old GA state flag and fly it for a day just to be an arsehat to my one leftist neighbor no one likes.
**(but then I would technically be supporting the old democrats from the 1800s so not so sure about it now. Eh, may be worth it for a reaction.)

I have the same issue with it. It's a made up day for the majority of the US. If you really wanted to celebrate when the last slaves were freed in Delaware and Kentucky, you'd celebrate the ratification of the 13th in December.
"jEsUs WaSn'T bOrN oN dEcEmBeR 25tH!!!!!!!"
This is what you sound like.
Who cares? It's not for you. You won't ever celebrate anyway.

Avoid people that entire day. Which I do pretty much every day

This is about how I feel. There should be a day commemorating the end of slavery. Maybe it should be a different day like the day of the Emancipation Proclamation, but it doesn't really affect me beyond my birthday now being a holiday which is nice

The wife has off (dumb I know) so I think we’re gonna go to the beach for the day.

Who came up with this stupid name?
Slaves who couldn’t pronounce June Nineteenth.

Wonder if the families of those who were still slaves after Juneteenth, in the north no less, will still celebrate?
Not really the North, but it lasted in Kentucky until the 13th amendment became official - Dec 18, 1865. Decidely after June 17 of that year.
ETA: Delaware had slaves until Dec 18 as well, bizarrely enough.
Missouri and Maryland abolished it independently prior to Juneteenth

I haven’t read the thread, but I can’t be the only one to realize that Father’s Day and Juneteenth being on the same day is quite the ironic occurrence

My parent's 53rd wedding anniversary is on June 19th. They are pissed that now this holiday is on their anniversary. People will say Happy Juneteenth!

Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll see if my Country Club or my Yacht Club has anything planned to celebrate the inaugural event.
Give me a nanosecond to check….
Nope.

No one knows when Jesus was born.
We know the exact date all slaves were freed.
That's the difference dumbass. Why celebrate a made up holiday when you know the exact date the holiday should be?
It's like celebrating women's right to vote on November 3rd because Idaho gave women in that state the right to vote instead of the actual ratification of the 19th on August 18th. It does a disservice to the women who still could not vote after Idaho passed their law 25 years prior.
Dates matter, and I prefer to celebrate the day *all* slaves were freed in this country, not some. It's a serious occasion and should be treated as such, not just adopting some local Texas "Juneteenth" bullshite.

Is it an accident that it is also Father's day?
Just an oversight, I'm sure.
