I always wondered why black people who encounter each other in public feel like they have to give the obligatory "how you doin?" or even act like they know each other, (when they apparently don't) and they both play along.

I prefer not to acknowledge anyone in public regardless of race, unless it is necessary. Some people get bent out of shape when I don't return an insincere greeting. I don't need to talk to every person I see because I am neither a 5 year old child or a retarded adult. It must my be white privilege that makes me feel this way.
