What's the difference?
One is contagious
Why am I getting downvoted for saying a stomach virus is contagious and food poisoning isn't? Am I missing something?

Definitely sounds like food poisoning.
Stomach bug, in my experience, is far more manageable than food poisoning. Food poisoning made me start strategizing best way to kill myself and not have my kids find me.

If it is food poisoning, it will be coming out both ends quite a lot. Last time I had it, it was about every 20-30 minutes for 24 hours. After that, you'll be done.
That’s where she’s at. 12 hours of puking/diarrhea every 20-30 minutes.
I had this March. It was a virus, not food poisoning.

Nice cover story.
You tried to poison her and now it’s looking like you didn’t use enough so you come up with this cockamamie thread to cover your tracks.
Matlock is on to you…

Considering food poisoning is, for the most part, ingesting some sort of harmful “stomach bug,” it could be called either and/or both.

Food poisoning is bacteria.
Stomach bug/flu/etc. is viral.

9 times out of 10, it's a stomach bug (norovirus). A lot of people can confuse it for food poisoning because a lot of the time you catch it from eating food someone else made while they were still contagious with it. So while yes, technically it was "poisoned food" it's still likely contagious. You're still very contagious for up to 72 hours after the last time you vomited with norovirus. Food poisoning could be any number of things. My wife got salmonella once. That was a week of misery for her. But 90% of the time, it's norovirus.
If its coming out both ends, just assume you're contagious. Don't be a dick and convince yourself it's food poisoning just because you dont want to quarantine yourself for a few days.

A fever might accompany a stomach “bug” or also called stomach flu. Usually 24hrs or feeling like shite.
Food poisoning usually gets better upon getting it out.

Sounds like norovirus

Is there really any way to know?
Not really. You get food poisoning from specific bacteria or viruses in the food. Each different pathogen gives you different symptoms. Same thing with a stomach bug. Most share common symptoms which makes it hard to determine what it is.

Burps are a good way to tell. If the burps taste like sulphur it is food poisoning.

I’ve had food poisoning twice. There was 0 doubt it was food poisoning.

Food poisoning, by definition, includes viruses. See the definition below.
Food poisoning ::Illness caused by food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins.
