How should I prepare for the LSAT?

I am going to be a senior next year and plan on taking the LSAT in October.
I have already bought prep books and I am starting to study those. Is there anything else I should do?
Also, when law school comes, what would be your advice to me on being as successful as I possibly can?

Spread your mental buttcheeks when you come across the Logic Games portion
Also expect a jump from your practice scores to your actual test. I got a 159 which was 5 points higher than I ever got on a practice exam.

My BIL just took it and he prepared by studying the prep books only. He scored in the 70th percentile, so that worked out.

Take a class
If you don't get score high 150s+ in practice, don't go to law school
Be top 20% at a T2 law school. Be top third at a T1 law school.

Study the games section. They all have a rhyme or reason to them. If you can recognize the type of game on the test, it can put you way ahead.

It depends on the kind of student you are. If you are a visual learner, the books should do fine. If you are an auditory learner, podcasts or audio files might work better. If you are a kinetics learner, you may have to take classes. The most important thing is to familiarize yourself with the format of the test and the instructions so that you don't have to waste time doing that during the actual test. In other words, take lots of practice tests.

Here is my strongest advice. Fill out the LSAT exam application and it put it on the side. Then fill out the MCAT exam application.
If you flunk the MCAT then the LSAT is a great backup plan or you could just go into podiatry.

I was an extraordinarily mediocre law student, but my best grades were in classes where I actually took the time to make my own outlines and studied them. Also, study and take old tests where available.

That LSAT is probably the easiest standardized test I've ever taken.
I'm of the firm belief that anyone with an average IQ could get deep into the 160s with enough practice.

I can't disagree with this enough. The law school you graduate from and your class rank don't mean jack shite. Go to a law school where you can network and meet people from across the country so your network is national not local. Find a specialty niche area in law and market the frick out of yourself in that specialty niche area. You do that and you'll make more money and be more successful than almost anyone slaving away at a large firm.
If you follow this Top 20%/T2 or 1/3rd at T1 law school advice you'll be destined to be a lawyer who will never break out on top tier in the profession.

My wife took prep classes with Kaplan. She did it somewhere in Baton Rouge. She says it was very beneficial and increased her scores.
