How Scientology took over downtown Clearwater

Most of the sales have not previously been reported. The Tampa Bay Times discovered them by reviewing more than 1,000 deeds and business records, then interviewed more than 90 people to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the transactions.
Even city leaders said they didn’t know the full extent of the purchases until they were shown maps created by the Times.
The church, its members and companies they control now own 185 properties that cover 101 acres in the center of downtown.
Half the properties were bought since January 2017.

You only own what you can defend. Round up the homeless from a bunch of cities and dump them all in Clearwater and see how the Hubbtards deal with them

I’m only a casual $cientologist (you know, Christmas and Easter).. but Clearwater has long been synonymous with $cientology.. My guess is that now theyre just circling the wagons, doubling down with all the extreme bad publicity from the work that Leah Remini and others are doing.. just trying to buy everything up and exist within their own little bubble.
I also read recently that T. Cruise has sold most of his properties around the country and is moving to Clearwater full time , fwiw

worked in 1996 when ATL gave free bus tickets to all the homeless and they ended up in Jacksonville.

It’s a shame these people don’t have to pay taxes. And I don’t understand why there has never been a major investigation take place within Scientology. Especially with all of the information that has come out.
I wonder if they donated to any political groups?

Clearwater has been a substantial hub for Scientology since the 70’s. Grew up with a family who was involved and the kids all went there for the summer to work in their hotel.
Frankly it’s quite possible it hasn’t gone to shite because of them.
