No better or worse than any other major city on the coast dealing with a hurricane that large. It would be bad.

Shitty thread.

I would be about the same if an inch and a half of snow hits Birmingham. Total disaster. Thousands dead. Work stopped for the rest of the year. Anarchy in the schools.

Lower manhattan would be inundated and the subways would be flooded for weeks or months.

Source: Some disaster show on the History Channel. Aliens were not involved, surprisingly.

I think that's the point of the OP. Sandy was a Cat 1. Irene hit New York as a tropical storm. And they complain about them today as if they were major storms. These were tiny, nothing storms by Gulf Coast/Lower East Coast standards.
If a Cat 3 or larger hit them, it would be really bad.

I bet lots of flooding and damage. Disruption to everyday life.

Probably about like anywhere else a cat 5 would hit

A Cat2 can still be a major disaster especially given the size of the storm. Sandy was HUGE. TS force winds extended 485 miles from the center. Normal storms of that category reach out to 300 miles.

The storm also hit with a full moon and at high tide

If a CAT5 ever hit NYC, I would expect to see some building collapses.

Sandy was named a "Superstorm" because it merged with another storm front that crossed its path just prior to landfall.

As long as Seemless works, everything will be fine.

Slightly on topic, there are bug-out boats on the water that people charter to just sit and wait until something bad happens. Supposedly a lot of weathly foreign families use the service for their kids who live in Manhattan.

I read an article not long ago about what would happen if a storm made landfall directly with Manhattan. It would basically wipe it off the map.

ETA: here it is

If a storm came in right up New York Bay between Staten and Long Islands, the place would be trashed if a Cat 2 came in that way. You're talking flooded subway tubes starting near the Battery and the Battery Park area flooded as well as low lying areas all over Staten Island and Brooklyn
