Major Hurricane or not........I was there and it was devastating. Long Beach basically had 4’ of water go across it. Most neighborhoods anywhere near water went under. Adjusters were still scoping houses 2 months after Sandy hit. It was bad.

After a quick search, it was a Cat 1 when it hit the east coast.

What would happen if that made landfall?

It would be a blizzard of shattered glass and debris.

A number of older buildings would likely collapse.

Power would be out for months in most sections of the city.

The flooding would make Sandy look like a popcorn fart.

I would be about the same if an inch and a half of snow hits Birmingham. Total disaster. Thousands dead. Work stopped for the rest of the year. Anarchy in the schools.

Biblical Hell.......looting, buildings set on fire, gangs rampaging all along the upper East Side and the Village also co-habitation and Woody Allen types fighting for appointments with their therapists who vacated to the Catskills.....the people in Queens would be all right except She Gueverra.....meanwhile in Jersey, Spartacus would be crying

NWS Confirms Sandy Was Not a Hurricane At Landfall

In a technical report released on Tuesday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reaffirmed its initial conclusion that Hurricane Sandy was no longer officially a hurricane when it made landfall on Oct. 29 near Brigantine, N.J., just north of Atlantic City. Instead, it was a “post-tropical cyclone” packing hurricane-force winds, the report said.

About as prepared as we would be for an earthquake or drought--you know, things that don't happen here so we don't prepare for.

On a scale of 1-10....probably 1.2 at best.

So basically sandy did an outrageous amount of damage, yet wasnt even a cat 1.

So cat 5, hell even a cat 3, would be unthinkable

SUNY has for decades been trying to get it through to the population in the Tristate area surrounding NYC that storm inundation is potentially catastrophic for that locale.

The reason I know Sandy wasn't officially a hurricane is I was curious why the national media kept referring to Sandy as "Super Storm Sandy" instead of just calling it "Hurricane Sandy." That seemed odd to me.

So I researched it and learned that it wasn't considered a hurricane at landfall although it had hurricane force winds in gusts.

So the media had to create a hyped up term rather than just calling it Tropical Storm Sandy.
