How pointless are gated communities without guards?

If some dipshit is fumbling around with the gate code, am I supposed to wait all night for them to figure it out or do I use my clicker to open it? Especially if I need to take an urgent dump.
Edited- without guards is what I meant

Without a guard a gated community is pointless.

where my buddy lives, if you don't have a clicker, you don't get in unless you give your info to the guard and the homeowner ok'ed entry.

I'm a poor, we couldn't afford guards at this place

Can't tell you how many idiots would sit at the gate entrance and press random buttons on the box while I waited.
Some would sit in the front parking lot and wait for me to drive thru then fly in behind me before the gate closed.

a guards just a worthless imo. usually some retired guy who's way past his prime just cashing in a check.
my advice, don't live on first floor, and from there have renters insurance and a nice 870 pump under the bed and just live your life

Gated communities are only meant to keep the riff raff out, not the criminally minded.
For that they work well. Beyond that, you need guards of course to stop the criminal element.

Well, then, you suffer.

Gates are for poors. We have a bear moat.

Man, this is a good question. There is a gated community I go in on a regular basis that has a guard shack. It has a sign that says "do not enter without permission" but there has never been a person assigned to work there to stop anyone from going in.
It really just seems like its there just so they can say they are a gated community.

You can still boast on Facebook about how you live in a gated community.

I do this too. I hate letting people in to my gated community. If you don't know the code, or if you can't get in without assistance, you don't belong there.

What if a chocolate starfish was really edible? What if it was really chocolate? Would you order it as an edible arrangement?

Seems like a gate is better than nothing. Criminals look for the softest targets. A secured gate, assuming it's part of a perimeter wall, would present a deterrent imo.
I know this because I'm a criminal.

I don't bother with guards, I just have my personal security detail.

HOAs and gates = property encumbered with fees to make 'management' companies rich. Actual rich people have their own walls and more than the .22 acre postage stamp lot.

The Pelican Point "guard" is the biggest waste of money.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
My portfolio is heavily weighted in gate and fence manufacturers.
The best security is to live next to somebody more attractive and easier to break into.
