How pissed do you think Dugout Douglas MacArthur was on this date in 1944?

The dude had to take a backseat to Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, et al throughout the entire war AND they got to take part in the greatest invasion in history.

Meanwhile he’s sitting around in the Philippines with his thumb up his arse. The dude’s massive ego had to have taken a huge hit on June 6, 1944.

Maybe he should have kept his political opinions to himself. 6 years later, he would be relieved of command by the President for just that.

Well that and idiotically running smack dab into hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops when the intelligence screamed they were right there.

I fired him because he wouldn't respect the authority of the President. I didn't fire him because he was a dumb son of a bitch, although he was, but that's not against the law for generals. If it was, half to three-quarters of them would be in jail.

It was his ego-driven insistence on staying with his island hopping offensive plan, when it was obvious that the remaining islands were lost causes, that resulted in the loss of thousands of American lives for nothing. The Navy wanted to bypass the remaining few islands & press forward towards Japan itself, circling back later to claim the islands. A lot of American soldiers died because of his ego. There are a lot of reasons why so many of his men hated him.

He really and truly is one of the most overrated generals in American history.

He became a five star. Same as Eisenhower and higher ranked than Patton and Bradley in ww2. He pretty much helped get Japan and Korea back on their feet. Japan and Korea never became communist thanks to him. He has alot of faults but he also has several positives.

He evacuated the Philippines in early ‘42.

He actually said he was a leader of a free State. There are opinions out there that firing him cost Truman a second term. I wasn't around so idk. But Truman was determined to show the American people that no member of the military could disregard the Commander they voted for.

Media hyped to a level they couldn't sack him. fricker tried to put the military over the people. Given the choice of Halsey or MacArthur's grave to piss on, 10 out 10 times I'd go with MacArthur's primadonna bullshite arse. Halsey's sin was only being incompetent because of ego at crucial moments.

He was nowhere near as pissed as Patton was. The greatest general of the war having to play decoy.

He would either get it right in a big way or really eff it up, for example Inchon in Korea was a master stroke but had they pushed the Norks out of artillery range of Seoul and then pulled up and dug in instead of trying for the Yalu the Chinese likely never get involved in Korea.

He screwed up in the Philippines and moved his supplies to the beaches instead of Bataan, and parked his planes where they could be taken out early on.

Then at the end of the war he got the occupation of Japan exactly right.

He notified me that he had to have a bath or he couldn’t put to sea.
