24 in 2008.
I was too young and not prepared for being settled down. The housing market crisis sucked.

I was 28, but the value of the first house I bought is probably 75% higher now than when I bought it. I wish I had stayed in it longer.

My advice: America needs to get married earlier and have babies younger.
Sound advice. I wish we started a family earlier. We were both of the opinion we did not want to have kids until my wife turned 32 then she suddenly did LOL. She was, of course, right. As it turns out I like being a daddy and I am good at it. Had I known that at 22 when I met her we'd have had a damn flock of younguns.

28 (2014). Bought a house with 3 other properties on them and remodeled them and rented them out for two years and then sold everything and put a big down payment on my current home.
Worked out really well. Wasn't a very big home or in the nicest neighborhood but we stuck it out for a while and got a lot of equity in those properties. Everyone on here hates Obama, but I got 1.5% interest on my first home so I'll give him props for that.
If interest rates can get down again I'll be building something new.

37, it's way more expensive up here than back home.

I bought my first place at 25 -- right before the crash of 07-08. I bought it for the dumbest of reasons -- trying to prove something to a woman. ARM loan, 2 % down, market crashed and I was upside down in less than 2 years.
Got laid off and at the time couldn't find a job in my field (real estate and finance). When I got turned down for a job at Starbucks and my savings were damn near gone, I said frick it, took the cash for keys offer from the bank and left the country for a few years until things shook themselves out.
