23 I think? I was an assistant manager at Winn Dixie making $10.50/hr and my wife did private babysitting making like $150/wk. Wasn’t easy, but we did it

We got a special interest rate for first time home buyers of 9.95%. If I’m remembering correctly, normal rate at that time was 12 - 13%.

Yep. Interest rates in the 80's were insanely high. I bought my 2nd house in the early 80's and the only way that happened is I got to assume the sellers mortgage at a good interest rate and took out a personal second mortgage with the seller and a lower rate than the lenders were seeking.

I paid off the 2nd mortgage in 2 years and cut my monthly payments by 1/3.

My first house was a 100+ yr. old single shotgun that I grew up in. I remember my mom getting married for the 2nd time about the time I bought that old house in 74. She and my stepdad bought a brand new 2 story 3 BR., 2 Bath brick house in Buccaneer Villa North in Chalmette with a small storage shed attached to a carport for $40K.

Now it costs WAY more than that for the lot to build on.

This word cracks me up

You don't own anything until it's paid off...

You share custody with the bank/mortgage company...

28.

I now pay more in federal income tax every year than the total cost of that house. It’s obscenely absurd.
