Rented until I paid cash for my first home at 32 years old.
If you had bought, you would have been making equity during that rental time, along with appreciation. This was a terrible plan.
I bought my first at 21. 109k brand new. Needed nothing but grass. Upgraded a few times and became debt free at 38. My oldest owns a home at 19 (with some help) and my others will do the same. I’d rather start them off with equity and a jumpstart on life than leave it to them when I die and they don’t need it. It amazes me how old most of you were back when it was easy. This generation is screwed without help.

34 and got lucky because I had no money and the company I worked for at the time was a large property management company. They gave us 7 percent off of the lot and 10 Pete Mr of of the house. The bank used that as my down payment. I got really lucky because it’s not easy to save a down payment with family. Almost impossible unless you’re killing it.

One report said the average age is mid-fifties (sorry, forget where I saw that).
You read that on here. I could be mistaken, but I believe that’s just the average age of a homebuyer today. I don’t think that means it was the first time they bought a home. Someone in their 50s might be buying the third home. They would still be considered in that average,

I saw the same article and it did say first time home buyer. I bought my current house at age 30. In ten years it has more than doubled

Bought a tiny house for $125,000 in Baton Rouge.
Upgraded twice in BR before moving out west.
On my third house out here.
So, I've owned 6 houses thus far.
Dream is a cabin on 10-15 acres.
