How old are kids before they learn how to catch?

Most average ones show signs of being close to catching a ball about at 5.5 - 6 years old.

Ive done things like making them catch a tennis ball with their hands over and over to try an accelerate the process. I honestly cant see that it helped to where they went from not being able to catch any and could not catch plenty with the 20-25 kids I tried it with.

fielding isnt getting a scholarship offer. teach them to pitch or get them hitting off a tee. sometime around 14 months

My son is 3 1/2 and he does okay if I gently lob a ball at him.. And by okay I mean like 33 %.

Catching a baseball in a glove without using the basket catch, typically is around 6-7. Though I've seen some as young as 3 do it.
