I have averaged one or two long trips (road trip more than 6 hours or flying) per year and two short trips (less than 6 hours). I had a bunch of short ones last year.

Usually one or two long (week +) vacations per year, and 5-10 short weekend trips scattered about.

I also live in PA, and there are a lot of other cities within 2 hoursso it’s easy to shoot out for a weekend. Went down to DC this past Saturday/Sunday just to hang out.

Yep that’s been nice. We’re in Harrisburg. Moved here about a year ago

2-3 international trips a year, 10-12 domestic trips a year for business.

A few personal trips sprinkled in.

Sounds terrible. A weekend each every 4-6 months is enough

Two week long trips or so climbing a year, two family vacations, and one with the wife and I.

As much as you can afford and as often as you can. That’s how much you should travel.

For those that have ever been in a similar predicament, how did you handle it? Set stricter limits on how many times you will visit family?

While our solution won't work for most people we have a house in each state where the bulk of our families are. We adjusted our work to limit the time we need to be in our primary residence and just go back and forth usually two months at a time. We both love time with family and see either a couple or a large group at least once a week. We are both lucky in that we can do the majority of our work as long as we have an internet connection and the older we get the less time we spend in the office. While not unique I imagine we are pretty rare for a couple who both work and can both be mobile most of the time.

I croiss cross across the country on business four to seven times a month, so traveling for family or friend events has to damn well be something special. Except for my mom back in Louisiana. Ill drop everything to see her.
