I spent a month's salary on mine. Fiance loves it, and 0% for 12 means I don't have to adjust my savings any.

Thank god for family jewelry being passed down. Already having a diamond and just needing a ring + altering the setting to fit the existing stone was so much cheaper than dealing with all this mess. So much info, so much disinfo, and so many conflicting interests vying for money, and all of it avoided thanks to grandma.

If you think the cost of an engagement ring should directly correlate to your salary, you're stupid*.

A college student will spend less than a 35 year old with a 6 figure income.

My buddies all seem to be going for three stone rings, but they are spending some serious money.

How much we talking bro?

I think that's about what I spent which wasn't a ton of money when I was 27

My wife's engagement stone is a solitaire .65 carat. Brilliant super high quality with the Hearts on Fire cut. Pretty diamond and sparkley.

Smaller stone, but near perfect and great cut.

She's loved it for 20 years now.

Rather spend money on the quality.

equation for future reference...

Expected years married = -8.889*ln(cost of ring)+70.623

My ex didn't want us to spend a lot on a ring so we went to pawn shops and found a nice one she liked.

Yeah the stones aren't replaced for free if something happens but they are 1/10th the price and I have it on good authority that "diamonds are forever".

Thanks, Jody, for keeping the used wedding ring shelves always stocked

It’s really not all about size.

This. I learned more about diamonds when shopping then I ever cared to know.

It’s usually cheaper to go custom from a local jewler than a chain. We went to Cut and designed a ring with a significantly higher clarity for like $2k less than something off the shelf at Jared’s or Kay’s. She still gets compliments all the time.

The difference between .5 carats is like the thickness of a sheet of paper. If you go right under a size; like .95 or 1.45 carats you’ll save a ton and no one will ever be able to tell with their eye the difference.

I always wanted to go to Laynes since they were local but damn did they have some shitty clarity diamonds for full blown retail. Meaning noticible to the eye defects for pretty expensive prices.

Jewelers negotiate like a motherfricker btw. Always ask.

none - my wife hates diamonds - prefers Sapphires and Emeralds.

her engagement ring was a straight emerald ring.

If size of a diamond matters, you have the wrong girl.

Single stone.
1.5 or 2 carats. Can’t remember. Only remember how much it was
It is gorgeous though and after 5 years, she still ooh’s and ah’s at it. Worth every penny

My grandmother left me a diamond that was just a hair under a carat. My wife picked out a setting that set me back about $700.

My wife has been happy with it for a decade, so I'm pretty happy with it.
