My buddies all seem to be going for three stone rings, but they are spending some serious money.

Is this the new normal?

Man, I say go with whatever you can afford.

Everything seems to be a contest these days.

I thought millennials killed the diamond industry. Do we still have to spend money on this worthless trash?

1/2 Carat high quality cushion cut diamond with several smaller stones embedded in the ring. No halo, no 3 stones (hated that look)

Naw I got my honey a 1.something carat and just made sure it's other qualities gave it fire.

But she also has small hands and doesn't like gaudy.

do us all a favor and buy a tiny stone. the high expectations have to stop at some point. let's be part of the solution.

You gotta do the stand alone stone to make it look bigger. It’s really not all about size. You can get a 3 carat that looks fricking terrible. Cloudy, yellow and has fractures in it.

Carat doesn't matter much if the quality is shite.

Rules to live by.

#1: When it comes to women, buy whatever you can afford. Succumbing to materialistic whims of females will only set unreasonable expectations for said females because you will eventually find yourself in a situation where you are unable to out do yourself.

Plus, and women that cares more about how much you spent on an engagement ring than the reasons you are giving it it the first place is not a woman you want to half your assets to.

Buy what you can afford, if that's the deal breaker... you just saved yourself the time and expense of a divorce.

Yep. I got a single stone, .46 carat, that is perfect to the naked eye (no color, no visible impefection, shines like a disco ball). It was all I could reasonably afford at the time, but even if I could have paid more I don’t think I would have gone much if any bigger or more extravagant. I paid something like $1,200 total.
