$100k isn't the same as it was less than 5 years ago. This round of inflation has been hitting hard.

If you're making $110k+ a year and you cant go on vacations or buy an iphone, sounds like you have a budgeting problem or way to much debt

Is this as a single adult? Thrown in a wife and 3 kids, and that $110 doesn't go far.

25 - $15k (retail hell)
28 - $50k (still in retail hell + Uber/Lyft)
30 - $75k (broke into tech)

I'm 32 now and am making $90k. Feels like I'm bringing in less than I was two years ago. Inflation has been a bitch.

Age | Income | Adjusted Income
25: | 40k | 28k
28: | 55k | 46k
30: | 65k | 54k

Today: much more

While this may be a fun exercise, we could do the same with our salaries from the years prior and have a similar adjusted income. The dollar has always dropped in value. It's intentional.

So in a state with a median income of like $50k, one guy is making under $100k @ 30 years old.

At 25, as a first yr resident, I was working >100hrs/wk and pulling about 1/2 minimum wage/hr ... literally.

28, 30, I was in the military at that point. With bonuses ~$180K in today's $. After 2 years or so, we'd saved enough to start investing.

$1 per hour at Fred's Texaco while at La Tech.

But gas was also 32¢ and we swore a front wheel drive car would never go over.

Yeah, I'm that old.

Exactly. I was living large 10 years ago even with kids. We were going on 3-4 vacations a year. Now, I feel like I'm paycheck to paycheck and losing ground.

Inflation has gone up about 34% since 2014. A little less than 3% per year on average. What have you been doing that you haven't increased your income ~30% over the past 10 years. You had 4 years of Trump + crazy covid spending/low interest rates that have juiced salaries over the past 10 years.

Adjusting for inflation, what is a rough estimate of what you were making at these ages?

Look around. You're in Louisiana. Lots of trailers and many claim zero income.

Are you under the impression that TD is a representation of the state's population as a whole?
