Local bike shop has a $450 Trek bike. My son is 8 and at the minimum height for the 24” model.

You're going to spend that on a bike he'll grow out of and beat the shite out of? When i was a kid, kickstands didn't exist. I just dropped the bike on the ground.

They also have a $300 one for my 3 year old daughter.

I mean, to me, that's such an incredible waste of money for a bike that a kid will grow out of.

More power to you if you have the means and don't care about money, but pragmatically speaking, you are overpaying. $100 to $150 tops for a kids bike.

The Woom 2 is $359 plus shipping. Oh, I see you wrote training wheels. They don't do those.

Agree. Training wheels teach them the exact opposite of what it takes to ride a real bike (balance).

I spent a little more money to get mine on an aluminum frame bike with decent parts and it made a big difference in his riding enjoyment.

Congrats on investing on an outside toy for your kid. That being said…Your kid is going to outgrow the bike. I would wait to spend good money on a bike for when he is older.

I have 4 kids. I spend 100-200 depending on the style. Younger kids get older kids bikes. All of them have lasted and my expense has been relatively minimal.

I did buy a nicer bike for my oldest (16) in anticipation of him keeping that bike for years.

For your son, try to find something used or just go to Target or Academy and get something cheap. Unless he's really into biking, no need to spend that much for an 8 year old.

For your daughter, I highly recommend getting a balance bike - one without pedals or training wheels. She'll be able to get on a traditional bike in a couple of years and pick it up almost immediately from learning how to balance. I bought used ones for both of my kids at that age for around $75.

Yeah, i'm fighting this right now. All he does is lean on the training wheels. I'm taking them off this weekend. May do it when i get home and teach him properly.

I bought a $150 Ozone BMX style bike for my son when he was 8. He rode it for 5 years, now my daughter has adopted it. It's held up well even with him going off small jumps.

dude he is 8, do not get him a 24". 24" is for adults unless you are getting him a gay arse mountain or road bike.

get him a nice 20" BMX bike. i suggest a haro shredder, gt air or redline rival. all under $400 and will last him until he no longer wants a bike.

unless you are doing true mountain riding etc then just get bmx

Training wheel don't really ruin anything. Take them off and do the run behind him and he'll learn in 30 minutes to a couple days.

Dude, $400 for an 8 year old’s bike? I get it, I do shite like this all the time too. Wanna kid the kid something cool. Seriously, this ain’t worth it. $125 @ Walmart or academy. Pick out his favorite color and you’re done

At that age, there is no way in hell I'd pay 300/450 for a bike. Walmart, Target, hell even Amazon you can get a kids bike way cheaper! Granted not the quality of bike that you would get from a bike shop, but seriously....

Why does your son, Breckenridge, ride a girl's bike? I'm sure Specialized makes boy's bikes, too.

My 3 year old is a freaking magician when it comes to his balance bike. We made it an inside toy and he whips around all over the place. He can already balance while traveling. He is lightyears ahead of my SIX year old. Balance bikes are where its at for younger kids over training wheels.
