How much of making a marriage work is love and how much of it is being a good team?

We get a good bit of OT divorce threads and got me to wondering is it better to be in love or to work good as a team?

A lot of OT posters are high school graduates living in rural Louisiana...

Good team. Love fades. Lust goes away even faster, until you get a hot nanny.

considering money is the #1 reason for divorce, I'm going to go out on a limb and say being honest and good with money is a great start for a working marriage.

I'd say 45% Love 55% working together

Love is a big part of it....but nobody can survive a long term commitment without working together to get through some shite.

And thermostat disagreements are #2, so be prepared to sweat a little extra.

Seems like many people don't want to do the work to make marriage work. Just because you get married it doesn't mean you stop trying to do everything in your power to make the other person happy. In general, we should all be learning and evolving. Laziness and selfishness can be a huge barrier for many. Certainly has to be a team effort. You need to both understand what you want and where you want to be going into the future. If you can't communicate at all or even on a consistent basis about the major life goals and issues, then you're swimming upstream.

It’s commitment to the misery and the ecstasy. Some just can’t hack it. I was done when I was the only one left in the marriage

Think it goes hand in hand. When you love someone you trust and believe that the other person is looking out for y’all best interest just as you are.

I am sure this changes when you have kids, but my wife and I have been married for almost 3 years now, and it has been a breeze. Granted, she is cool as shite and we have been together since we were 16 so nothing really comes as a surprise. I hear everyone say marriage is tough but in my experience it is the exact opposite.

Your chances of divorce go down at least 50% if you'll just follow my simple rules:

1) No duckface photos, ever. Automatic DQ
2) If she's had a solo selfie as a social media profile picture in the last 3 years, she's out
3) If you can find any picture of her in a MILF cowboy hat at a bro country concert, she'll cheat on you, or already has
4) No more than 1 tattoo, and she should be embarrassed about that one

Definitely this.

Disagree. If you’re a good team, your love only grows stronger especially when you’re faced with trials and tribulations.

Gonna disagree with this too but I will say that once you have kids and especially if you’re both working, opportunities for sex go way down.
