Way too many variables. But typically, a single male in the south making 80k can do whatever he wants within reason. Just have a budget and the discipline to stay under it.

Lots of people who make $80k live like they are making $300k. Save nothing and borrow everything they can.
Don’t do that. Get a reasonable apartment or rent house. Get an affordable car. Try to save some and see how much is left. Improve your lifestyle after a year or two if you see you can afford it and want it. Maybe buy a house.
Don’t blindly buy big ticket items before you see how far that 80k really goes. Once you are in, you can’t take that shite back, and the notes go on forever.

A big part of this is housing and vehicles. If you’re making 80k and want to buy a house that stretches your budget and a 50k+ vehicle, you’ll have issues. If you’re making 80k and you have 1k rent and a reasonable vehicle, you’ll be fine.
You should be taking home around $4500 a month or so with that income.

I will tell you what I have learned and wish that I had put into place for myself financially. ...
1. Pay cash for a used cheap 4 cylinder car that gets really good gas mileage.
2. Max out all contributions to a retirement account
3. Buy a modest house at a really good price.
4. Don't go out to eat.
Do this and you will be far ahead at 40. It's the long term pay off that matters

I’m a single male and I made 82k this year (I also get health insurance, phone, company truck) and it’s enough that I can afford a new truck, speed boat, and have enough left for fun weekends of hookers and blow

most people are either completely tone deaf or absolutely terrible with money.
i make basically half of that and i am very comfortable as a single male. i contribute to my 401k and save on top of that as well in addition to normal bills and rent. granted, i would probably not want to start having kids on my salary and i don't go on expensive vacations. i live in a pretty affordable city, but with 80k, i would be absolutely BALLING

In Louisiana average annual wage is about $41k. Despite how people on the OT try to talk up, if you're making $80k then you're doing very well for yourself. But the whole premise of this thread is bluster anyway. "Starting out" at $80k isn't a thing for the vast majority of people, even in good careers. Whole thing's bullshite.
