what’s the point of being on twitter/X if you can’t follow these guys?

Hopefully soon.
X is a great source of misinformation and conspiracy theories these days.

For being such a touted entrepreneur, Elon has done a marvelous job of running of his customer base. (advertisers)

it's also the greatest source of up-to-the second breaking news. depending on what accounts you follow, one could just avoid every news outlet and just get their news updates from X.

the misinformation comes from all sides, but that's the beauty of the first amendment.

it's funny bc misinformation is coming at an even pace from the mainstream media.

Xwitter will certainly die this week, dammit. It didn't last week, or the week before that, or two months ago, or four months ago, or the last half dozen times before that when we said it would certainly die. This time......this time it is dead, no doubt about it.

You know, it is funny. Facebook....err Meta....has rampant scammers and people pushing bullshite all the time, but it just doesn't seem to generate quite the concern as Xwitter. Huh, wonder why?

My favorite is all the journalists stating they would leave, yet they're all still there posting

He will own it forever, it will continue to recover and eventually make a small profit. You will continue to post on it beneath a brown paper bag sad face while touching yourself in the dark.

i'm also old enough to remember elon put together a whole team at X just to combat the bots.

i gotta imagine the f8gs at facebook and reddit don't have quite the singular focus or vision to do likewise so i'll take elon's efforts here to do the right thing even in the face of losing much business due to the mass purge of fraudulent accounts.

hard to combat this; you gotta go upstream and find who's funding these labs. these poor sweat-shop chinese people are making like 50 cents a day to follow a sophisticated script to circumvent bot prevention which gets tweaked daily to get around any efforts to the contrary.

technically they are NOT A ROBOT because some poor shmuck has to be clicking all the right places on the phone screens...

It’s amazing how much the left loved twitter and used it as an accurate measure on public opinion until they didn’t control it.

Those community notes on news agencies including CBSnews stating now that Kamala was never border czar or anything similar must be pissing them off. The notes are especially fun to read when they use the news agencies own words or even prior tweets against them.

Elon has cut costs a lot. When Trump wins the election he will make all that advertising money back plus more for Elon.

Posts have numerous comments that don't relate to the topic,

I mean in just one year, it was worth 19B less than when he bought it. Now it's supposedly worth 75% less than when he bought it.

Where are you seeing this (cannot open article, so only see what OP quoted)? If you are basing it off of the earnings figures from OP's quote, US revenues would only be a portion of a business valuation comparison.

The article in OP mentioned how it's a privately owned company, so they can only use estimates. And their estimates appear to be comparing current US revenues to total revenues before he owned it. But even if they are comparing current US revenues to previous US revenues; the fact that they do not discuss international revenues while also acknowledging that they are making more of a worldwide push seems to be a little disingenuous.

If your push is to get more international, you'd also be looking to make a push to get more international business/advertisers.

Let’s say he loses $2b a year. He’ll be broke in…125 years.

What this article or at least the excerpts fail to take into account of is the expense reduction Elon drove at X.

It could be generating a profit at 1/2 the revenue because he cut so much fat.

1. I don’t believe their numbers because they have no basis for their numbers.

2. He cut a huge amount of staff (from over 8k to under 2k) so he’s saved billions. Let’s say each employee cost $100k in salary and benefits on the low end. That’s $600 million in savings each year. Each employee probably cost between $200-250k on average so he’s likely saved $1.2-1.5 billion a year in expenses. So even if he’s lost some ad revenue, his margins likely are as good, if not better than they were before.
