I still like the story of the LARP soldier shooting at a Russian APC with an AK and then getting blasted to shite.
It's REALLY sad how stupid some people are.

They'll kit him out when he gets there, or he can just pick up gear off the ground from the thousands like him that have died already.
If he wants to fight, this is all he needs:

Gear is only secondary. Mental fitness is first, can you handle the stress? I am not talking about we are low on coffee BS stress most people think of stress, I am talking higher stress than 99% of people have ever faced.
Your friend is full of shite, but if he is not and is under the age limit he should go down to a recruiter's office and sign up for a combat MOS, 11B will take almost anyone.
After his 4 year hitch he may be ready for combat. With that, I will leave you with this quote from Heraclitus:
quote:
Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back
That is a very true statement, and your friend is likely one of the ten or at best, one of the 80.

I'm closer to 50 than 40 now. There'd have to be a Russian tank rolling down Siegen Lane before I thought about grabbing a rifle

Yep. That’s all he needs other than an airline ticket. Probably a plus if he knows his blood type. The rest will be provided. Sounds like your boy is as close to fighting as he’s gonna get though.

I'd imagine your friend would be paralyzed if he had to move under fire.

A good life insurance policy that covers being shot to shite fighting for a foreign entity.
Oh and ammo. Lots and lots of ammo.

Let me guess he was one of those I was gonna join ,but (I'd knock a drill sgt out, can't be away from my kids, or was disqualified at MEPs/couldn't become an officer/any other lame arse excuse).

What’s the gear that one would need to be combat ready for Ukraine?
You could have all the gear you want. If you don't know how to use and operate it along with not having any type of support in a war like that you are just cannon fodder.

Kevlar, rifle, pistol, boots, night vision goggles? What else
Yes, but refer to statement above.

When you say "fake military" types...does that mean your friend did not serve?
Talk is cheap, but he deserves a little respect for having served, while apparently, you did not.

I hope he finds a way to make it over there. We could use less stupid people here.

Can you buy discipline? And the correct balance of humility and assertiveness?
Imma bet the lack of those is what would make him unsuccessful if he tried.

E-tool is an unnecessary thing to take on a combat mission. Pack as light as possible especially in an urban war zone, where things can be readily available. Urban warfare can suck but it’s easier to improvise and adapt in that scenario.

Explain what you mean by "combat ready".
No one needs to be in great shape or have great training to engage in guerilla warfare against a hostile occupying force.
But if you're planning on going toe to toe with a trained soldier in open combat the best advice is to just rethink that plan. Any open combat should be a last resort to escape to friendly territory.
