I couldn’t ever justify it when you can check your phone for the time.
If you want to look baller and waste money go for it, but there is no reasonable justification

quote:Holy hell if financing a $1k watch is even an option in your headspace you need to stop being in charge of your own money
So you suggest I don’t finance it even if the rates are good?

3rd page and not one about $350K. At a time when $350k pretax is actually a good answer

Leasing can actually work for some situations.

Bingo.
The fact that so many people out there bring home upper middle class incomes but still live paycheck to paycheck is absolutely insanity to me.
I have a nice car, a nice house, and I get to take a couple nice trips a year.
The last thing I want in life is to be constantly stressing about making my boat and lake house payments each month.
F that.

Buy a nice $300 watch, put $500 in your Roth IRA, and give $200 to charity.

I bought one for $2,900 once.
I didnt realise it till I had to sign and provide ID for a delivery. Its sparkles a lot, looks annoying.
Was at the height of my xanax and ambien addiction, that's how I justify it. If I don't remember doing it, it doesnt count.

2019.
People use phones now to check time, and use their watches to call people.

I just dont care enough about pricey stuff. I prefer preowned vehicles and modestly priced clothing.
same here... i drive my wife's previous 2011 Yukon, i own 2 watches that cost me a total of about $350-400 total, and i hardly ever buy new clothes...

This. I love my Orient diver. Keeps good time, can be worn everyday, anywhere, and looks great. I love watches and will maybe one day spend 3-8k on one just to add to my budget collection, but for now that money is way better off going into and sitting in my 401k. Don't finance a watch, if you can't justify putting the cash directly into a purchase like that, don't.

Some good thoughts in here. I don't know the answer, but I will say this. I have 2 "nice" watches, an Omega Speedmaster and Rolex Explorer. Some may think it's a dumb thing to spend money on and maybe they are right. BUT, I could sell either today if I needed to and I drive a 2008 4Runner. A good watch is money in the bank as far as I'm concerned.

Once I started making enough for a 5k+ watch, I no longer cared and felt it was a poor use of money and invested instead.
I feel this about all kinds of things. Cars, clothes, watches, furniture. I have nice things and I'm not cheap, but I don't buy any of the stuff I dreamed about when I was younger.

Get what you want as long as it doesn’t harm you. I’d get an eco-drive and call it a day. It keeps the poors from asking for money. If you’ve got an Omega, every mom in the office is asking you to sponsor Braxlyn’s team that’s heading to the World Series in Mobile.

Best advice in this thread.

Considering that people on welfare have $400 apple watches, I'd say as long as you can keep your lights on $1k is easily affordable.

I have a mavado I paid over a grand for 10 years ago.
I haven’t worn it in about 7-8 years.
Battery died

You can never “justify” a $1,000 watch. But if you can afford it and it doesn’t hamper your ability to pay for all of your obligations, get it
