How much do you need to make to justify a 1K+ watch?

Just curious for the OT. I always told myself I’ll get a nice watch when I make more $, but the more I make the less affordable the watch feels. How much did you make when you committed to a luxury watch?

Doesn’t matter as long as you pay it off when you buy it and it doesn’t affect any bills.

just bite the bag and get what you want, a quality watch will last as long as you want to wear it

Once I started making enough for a 5k+ watch, I no longer cared and felt it was a poor use of money and invested instead.

So you suggest I don’t finance it even if the rates are good?

Buy what you want and what you can afford. If you can’t pay cash, don’t buy it. The more you make, the less affordable it will seem, because the more you make and the more mature you become...you realize it’s really not that important to buy a $1k watch.

I once had some ‘neck call me an spoiled rich kid brat for spending $150 on a round of golf all while he was driving a $60,000 truck pulling a $70,000 bass boat prob all financed for the rest of his life.

I feel this.

The more money I make, the less I'm willing to spend it in the shite I told myself I'd buy once I made more money.

It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you have

I'd love to know the answer to how much do most people with two $60K suvs and a $750K home bring in annually

My wife says I've gotten cheap. It's not that, I just dont care enough about pricey stuff. I prefer preowned vehicles and modestly priced clothing.

seems like a lot of people with serious money live relatively simple/frugal, I know a lot of baws that I work with that flaunt that lifestyle, sure, they can afford it, but it eats up a hell of a lot of their disposable income

A watch is anachronistic, like expensive high karat gold and mined gemstone jewelry.

You probably own more things of substance that keep time than not. As much as we joke about it, a $1000 smartphone (at least if you keep it 3 or 4 years) is going to do a lot more for you than a $500 watch even, much less a $1000, $5000, $10k, etc., watch, even if those watches last 40 or 50 years.

Having said that, I'm not going to be "that guy" who spends other people's money for them. While I would not recommend financing such a purchase, if you can otherwise afford it and make it priority, then knock yourself out. Just recall it is merely jewelry that also tells time at this point.

Louisiana and Texas are full of these people, except maybe more like 500k for the house

The numbers don’t add up
