What a strange and arbitrary fricking number

When do you ever have to go out and buy a brand new car? If you said, "the average person should have enough to cover 6 months of bills/expenses" that would make sense, but your new car idea is pretty stupid

Never more than 6,000. I have 1 401 k and one Roth. If something were to happen I can always take a loan from those.

I think your trying to determine what percentage of money do people keep in savings over their monthly bills.
I only keep about 1 1/2 in cash. Then there are layers of assets that run from easily liquidable to difficult to liquidate. I have mortgages for more than 1 property so I need to be able to get cash if something should happen to income.

Lol “savings”? I got this here King Ranch F250 in the parking lot. Got lift tires and audio in it so that I can sell it if I ever get in a bind. That’s my savings AND I get to use it to roll coal up yalls butts on Ambassador Caffery until then. Lol

A year of living expenses. My wife doesn't work and I want a cushion if my job ever gets cut.

I don’t know your financial situation but that sounds crazy. Hopefully all of your investments are maxed out at least. People don’t realize but with a Roth you can pull the principal investment at anytime with with no penalty or tax. I use this as my emergency fund and try to keep cash at a minimum.

I’ve got way too much in checking accounts. It’s not smart at all, but it helps me sleep at night.

We have a lot in liquid savings right now. Wife stopped working so we wanted a comfortable buffer while we work out the kinks in the new budget. We'll slowly move it back to higher earning, less liquid accounts as we get comfortable, or if/when I get that special call for the baller promotion.

It's probably about 8 months of expenses I consider impossible or difficult to eliminate even in a tricky situation.

We weren’t poor growing up but we were nowhere near rich. Probably closer to poor. We lived in a not so nice trailer for a few years. My dad worked his dick off to buy and build his own home here in SELA and he purchased the 1k acres from my grandfather at a discount price in the early 90’s.
