Friend of mine isn’t married - got engaged recently though - and makes close to $90k/year. Seems like every few years I hear about him draining his savings for some reason or another.

I am slowly trying to get it all moved over to accounts in the market. I think I have cost myself more money than I want to think about leaving it liquid in checking accounts.

the average person should have no less then enough to go out and buy a new car tomorrow fully paid for.

i put that number at $30k

that should cover most any unforeseen emergency monetary situation you find yourself in.
