Somehow I got into a discussion about Joel Olsteen and someone told me, when they lived in Houston, their babysitter went to his church. She wanted a Lexus so she kept a Lexus pamphlet in the front seat and at times, before she got out of her car, she would say a prayer holding the pamphlet. Evidently she was convinced that, through the power of God, she could receive the luxuries life has to offer.. I am assuming, she thought that's how Olsteen lives the life of luxary that he does.

Anyway, so I googled something on Joel Olsteen and came across the ratings his weekly TV show receives. Each week he gets an average of 10 million people watching his show. That is valuable within itself, but lets say each week he is able to convince 3% of those people to donate each week. If 3% only donated $1 a week that is $300,000 a week which is $15,600,000.00 annually. That doesn't include money from book sales, money he makes from being on TV, etc.

Anyone want to start a mega-church with me?

honestly...it's going to be hard to motivate that many people of the "power of God" from a wheel chair...

100% of Joel Osteens income is book earnings, dvds, etc. He hasn't taken money from Lakewood since 2005. The goal of most preachers is to make yourself known throught the church, then make money off of things like books, cds, etc.

Joel osteen isn't a good example as he makes his money from books and speaking fees.. He receives a modest salary from the church from what I've read..

This is literally the antithesis of what Jesus taught.

There are few things that sadden me more than "pastors" who lead people down a path that is so far from what the intent of Christianity is.

Thought about it, and I'm agnostic

They make so much fricking money. Some of them have ATMs set up at the front doors in case people forgot to bring cash. Others have "credit card donation" stations.

Its so fricked up.

He.....sorry, his church gets way more than that. There is a pastor in BR who has two private jets parked at BTR. George Shinn donated an entire TN compound to Church of the King.

That's not a fault. Its hard for me to believe half of these people believe the crap they preach.

I wonder if Jesus would wreck those things like he did in the temple then have Joel kick him out.

I don't know for sure, but I think that Joyce Meyer woman has a jet or two and lives like a rock star.

I also remember them building this in Ormond thinking it was a subdivision facility of some sort... nope. Just Jesse Duplantis building a house.
