We used a coworker so it was free. How much do wedding officiants run nowadays?

Also how long did they spend at your wedding?

Bottle of wine or scotch costing north of $100.00.

(As a phony-baloney internet ordained minister, that is what I would love to be paid.)

Edited to add "or scotch")

It was a pastor we knew. He was really nice and talked to everyone before and a little bit after.

He didn't have a set price and just said to do what we felt. I gave him around 2 to 3 hundred.

This was 12 plus years ago though.

My wife's cousin did it (and killed it TBH). He's not clergy but he's a pretty theologically studied guy.

He got two Masters practice round passes for his troubles

Zero, long-time family friend.

It was made up over time, before and after my ceremony.

I seriously don't remember - it was so long ago. I don't think he charged anything other than free food and booze at the reception.

My dad officiated our wedding so $0.

I think most local pastors will do it for free if you are a member of their church or have family members who are. Normally the grooms dad gives the official a friendly handshake afterwards. That may just be an Alabama small town thing.

I don't think my dad charges people to officiate, but he only does weddings for family and friends.

Our pastor charged $75. He was at our cookout for our night before the wedding party, and hung around after the wedding for an hour or so.

The football recruit handshake (or handing him an envelope discreetly after) is how I always presumed it went down

I got ordained online several years ago to do my nieces ceremony. Since then I've done around 20. I've only ever charged once and I asked for $200, they paid me $250. The others I did for free and at the end the dad of the bride's have all walked up with the cash handshake and slid me between $100 and $200. I know several others who do wedding's and they all charge $200.

"Also how long did they spend at your wedding?"
So I go to the rehearsal and help with the order of how the wedding will go. Since I know almost everyone that I've married so far, I get there early to help planning or set up and then I stay to eat and drink. I did one that had a canoe full of beer. I stayed at that one longer than the others.

Have never set a fee for members of the Church, family and friends. On those rare occasions where I am the officiant and the relationship is one or two steps removed it is left to the groom - typically $100 to $150.

we used my parents pastor and they treated him well. i think he asked for a $150 donation to the church as his actual "fee" so they did that and then made it worth his while as well.

he came to the rehearsal dinner and the reception and stayed appropriately long at both.

Ah, I'm guessing in South Carolina?

Notaries cannot perform weddings in most states unless they are otherwise qualified to perform weddings (ordained or whatever other certification the law allows for).

The family preacher's fee was $150 and included the use of the church. I had already paid when we booked it but still put $500 in his hand afterwards. He was retiring and we were the last couple he married.
