1.00 an hour working at my dad's auto parts store. That was minimum wage in 1965. Made 40 bucks the first week and bought black cowboy boots.

£0.96 per hour in 1977. Take home pay was £0.62

Monthly tube fare was £102 meaning I had to get a weekend and night job to pay to get to my day job.

$3/hr plus tip out from waitresses as a bus boy.

Only about 2-5 hours per night. But not a bad gig for a 15 year old.

41.7 cents per hour at a grocery store when I was a kid. 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Before that before and after school for an hour at a drug store, 5 days a week for $3.

Finally hit the big time at a service station, 50 cents an hour washing cars, pumping gas. Full service car wash then was $2.00, flats repaired for $1. Big truck tires $4. Grease job, $1.50. Oil change with filter probably $6.

Later in about the 9th grade went to work at a store for $1 per hour.

So you boys ain't got squat on this old man.

When I started college minimum wage for students was about 90 cents or $1.00 an hour but you could only work so many hours a month. Hired on at a service station on weekends for more $.

My first big week I got $60 and netted about $48 I think. That night my pal got arrested for drag racing and his bond was $60 cash. He had $10, I had $48, and the cop let us slide at the jail until we could go bum the other $2.

Working crappy jobs for minimum wage was the best thing that ever happened to me. Digging ditches all summer was a great motivator to get a education in a career field where I was likely to never work outside or touch a shovel. Making kids work crappy jobs for little pay would be a net positive for many of today’s kids.

You still would have had that motivation if you were paid a decent wage. You’re bragging about being exploited as a child like a fricking retard.
