so insurance going up probably some fraudulent claims , raising rates, and dealing with a ticket all over that incredibly small amount of damage.

The bumper is probably going to cost $2000+ at a body shop even if there's no damage underneath.

The real kicker is going to be when your "family member's" insurance gets sued because the lady they hit is going straight to a chiropractor and a surgeon. I've heard of people having unnecessary spine surgeries just to cash in more.

And may Allah paralyze the people who fraudulently get surgery to make a quick buck off the honest man

It looks like it says I have to give the police officer my license if I’m involved in an accident that resulted in over $500 of property damage. Would the cop provide a written repair estimate at the scene? Is the officer liable for some sort of insurance fraud if the damage is less than $500?

I get it, but for such minor damage, it’s really a dick move to do.

I understand the POV but many people at fault in low speed impacts will tell the other person I will take care of it and there is no need to involve the police or insurance. Then when they find out the average body shop won't mix paint and clean guns for much under $1k and rental cars aren't free they begin to change there minds. Then the person has to spend a lot more time and effort getting their car fixed. Also don't forget you are actually required by law in LA (and most states) to call the police immediately to report and accident with $500 or more of PD. If the repair involves being in the spray booth at all it is definitely over. Sometimes the correct thing to do is a "dick move" to a rando.

In the long history of automotive travel, nobody has ever taken their car in for body work, and come away saying, “Wow! That was a lot cheaper than what I’d expected.”

If you weren't going 100 mph trying to save some gas you wouldn't be rear ending people

To the extent of your policy limits. And as soon as the people who live here and serve as jurors realize that, the sooner shite gets back to reality.

Because it’s a scratch. Normal human beings with dignity would just pay cash and not go through an insurance hassle. Actual damage, then yeah.

I don’t think there was any mention of injuries at all quite frankly, just a little freaked out about the quick calling of the police, and need for a police report on something where there’s barely more damage than a shopping cart running into a car in a lot.

She probably needs the police report for the claim.

My vehicle was nailed in a parking lot years ago. The guy that hit me left a note (only because someone we both know so him hit my car). I had a cop write a report, the guy's insurance company ended up needing it since the guy refused to answer their calls.

Nothing to freak out about, most likely the woman your wife hit has either been in an accident before or is close enough to someone who has to know that's what she needed to do.

Her lawyer will sue your insurance company up to your policy limits - and they will win. It's the game they all play these days. No fight on your behalf, they just roll over and take it.

Good questions. Either complain to your legislature for including a minimal dollar limit or give it a try and refuse to show your license and report back to us.

I’d imagine when the officer encounters someone refusing to provide id by snidely claiming there’s not $500 worth of damage, he’d go to the other driver and advise that there needs to be a complaint of injury to require all drivers to present id in the absence of $500 worth of property damage. I’m sure it wouldn’t be difficult to elicit some minor complaint to satisfy your concerns of compliance with the statute.

She certainly has a catch in her neck and back and feels a little dizzy (gen-X and older BRans will know the ref).
