Did the driver look like they are any government assistance? If so your insurance company is getting sued. If not 75/25 to nit getting sued.
Either way your insurance is going up.

Exactly right.

My son was in a crash in hammond with no visible damage to either vehicle. He bumped into the back of her vehicle at a red light reaching for something in his vehicle.

No injuries in the police report. Her attorney went for the max limits of coverage but settled for less. Settlement was just shy of $15k a year later.

If I rear end someone and they call the cops, I can just refuse to identify myself?

My original post was made in jest but if you exchange info with the other driver, why would the police officer need your license? For their report? If you tell the other driver you were driving the car, why does it have to be repeated in the police report? Does the officer verify the status of your insurance? Do they check the registration to make sure it’s current?

Louisiana should have clear guidance on when someone is required to identify themselves.

I really dont know thats why I was asking. I just assume if I get in a wreck, the officer is going to need my license to write a report for the person I hit. Ive only been in one legit wreck and I honestly dont even know what we did.

Tell them you are more than willing to exchange info with the other driver but demanding a license is turning a civil process into a criminal process. If the cop gives you any lip, just keep asking if you’re detained.

I don’t think there was any mention of injuries at all quite frankly, just a little freaked out about the quick calling of the police, and need for a police report on something where there’s barely more damage than a shopping cart running into a car in a lot.

Looks like the car is in a parking lot.
Not sure about where you live but in Alabama the cops don't even do reports on vehicle collisions on private property (i.e. parking lots). You just call your insurance company and exchange info.

Because why should anyone believe you are who you say you are? La rs 32:398 has the answers you seek.

Unlikely anyone makes a claim.

I doubt they file a law suit, but will probably won’t their bumper fixed, so a claim will be filed.
Doing anything with a paint and body shop is stupid expensive, so I would expect insurance company will raise his rates.

Bumpers are expensive these days. I'm going with $2500 damage plus the neck.

How long did it take Dr. Plantz to get his van there? Soft tissue injuries. Did the aggrieved leave in a neck brace?

Well, that's what you do. I got tapped in the back in afternoon 285 traffic in Atlanta a couple of months back and I was on the phone to the police while I was getting my license, insurance, and registration together. By the time I had gotten out of the car I had already called my insurance. The sooner you call the cops the sooner you are back on your way. Think about it, what is the point of standing around for 10 minutes before calling the cops. Both sides want a police report as it generally makes the process smoother.

Call the cops, get your documents ready, don't talk to the other person outside of non-related small talk and get pictures of the area and the damage (or lack thereof) to each car. I would note if you are hit and the driver stays in their car get a picture of their license plate first. In the case with my bump up the other driver was out of their car so they couldn't drive off quickly.

There is no point stressing there is every likelihood it will be a matter taken care of between the insurance companies and your only contact will be with your insurance company without anyone serving you with a summons and complaint.

Good summary.
Only exception is if you are in Nola or some other crappy place, if it’s a minor accident it’s not worth calling the police because they aren’t coming for hours or maybe not at all.
I had a guy hit me and he was nice about everything. I wrote out what was basically a confession and had him sign it. Got pictures of his insurance and DL and took lots or videos and pictures of damage.
It worked out, but I have heard many stories of things going sideways for people without police reports

I get it, but for such minor damage, it’s really a dick move to do. Family member got a ticket for following too close.

so insurance going up probably some fraudulent claims , raising rates, and dealing with a ticket all over that incredibly small amount of damage.
