80% of the time...I cheat death every time.

In 1985 I was driving across the GNO bridge at like 3 in the morning. I was going 100+ mph in a Datsun B210 and I was almost to the part over the river with the superstructure. The car- which was not very aerodynamic- left the road and turned sideways with literally zero tires in contact with the road. I was going sideways at 100+ and probably 200 feet in the air (over the ground, not the concrete lol), almost to where the bridge crosses the river. Anyway, there was a small 4-5" tall x 3 foot wide divider/median thing that I hit and the front and rear tires locked on to it and I slid sideways for a few hundred feet and came to a stop.
Anyway, both axles were destroyed (bent) and I wobbled off the bridge into that shitty area near St Claude Ave. It was as close as I have ever come to death. I was 15.

Only once. I was in a car wreck that happened at the intersection of Bluebonnet and Burbank. The person that caused the wreck was killed. She pulled out in front of a Mac Truck. After the truck hit her, her car landed on top of mine and then the Mac Truck hit me on the left side. I was in a coma in ICU for four months. They gave me little chance of surviving, but I made it. Thankfully I don't remember a thing about the accident and the doc said that I never will. I was left with some permanent injuries but at least I can fend for myself. Thankfully I wasn't left a vegetable. Things could be so much worse.

I was doing about 85 on the interstate one evening with the dog. I was in the far left lane just south of Atlanta.I had just gotten over a bout with bronchitis, I thought. I started coughing and couldn't stop. I couldn't breathe, I could only cough and I started to pass out. The best way to describe it is like blinking your eyes as fast as you can, then things went black. I was still conscious and I knew the road was straight, so I took my foot off the gas and tried to just old it straight until I, hopefully, came out of it. At some point, the dog stuck her face in my face, I guess to see WTF was wrong with me, and I pushed her away. That little movement made me start drifting off the road. I hit the wall, but I hit it as such a shallow angle I basically just slid down it. Knocked the mirror off, busted out the drivers side window, showering me with glass, too out a headlight and basically destroyed all the sheet metal on the drivers side. I started to regain consciousness and got back on the road, heading for the next exit, about a mile away. Folks were giving me strange looks as I changed lanes. Got off the interstate and pulled into a gas station. I had to climb out the passenger side because my door was inoperable. When I got out, I just sat on the curb and shook for a few minutes, with blood streaming down my face from the glass. Then I noticed I had a flat tire -- and the rim was bent to hell. The tire had a hole in it big enough to stick your thumb through it without touching the sides. I put on the spare, vacuumed out as much glass as I could, cleaned up in the bathroom, and got on US 29 for the rest of the trip.
I never felt panic, but I do remember, when things went black, thinking, "So this was how it feels right before everything gets all f-ed up."
Just wasn't my time.
For the next six months, every time I coughed, the dog barked at me and backed away.

Head on collision when I was 18. Hit by a truck at 55 mph. Walked away with broken ribs

I was driving down a hwy, I was hit by a girl who failed to yield because she was playing with her radio. She hit the front driver side and sent me right into a telephone pole and into a ditch.
It seemed like my life really flashed in front of me, but I hit my head and had a concussion, which is probably what caused me to feel like my life flashed in front of me..
But several people who was told I had been in a wreck and was taken to the hospital, when they passed the wreck on the way to the hospital, thought I was likely in really bad shape because my van was like a smashed coke can.. But I only had a concussion, a few cuts on my face and a few bruised ribs.. which isn't nearly as bad as it could have been, but for a split second I thought I was done.

1. When I was 20 i fell asleep at the wheel driving back from Nola to Lafayette and put my car into a flooded deep ditch.
2. Overdosed and was dead. Revived via narcan.

4"X 4" primed steel angle about 18" long hit my windshield at eye-level while driving about 75 mph on the interstate. Windshield literally turned to powder and it bounced off.
I saw it coming in slow-motion just like the movies.
Mis-judged the closing distance of a city bus on a 25 mph street and jay-walked. son of a bitch must have been going 45 mph when I felt the wind on my back.

One for sure, and it’s funny:
I was six. I lived near a cattle auction place in south Alabama. Behind it was a swamp of cow shite they funneled there into a wooded area. It created little islands surrounded by cow shite and piss. For redneck kids, it made a perfect place for forts, hide and seek and war games.
One day, we were playing bb gun wars with other kids a little older than us. We were running from the older kids. I was trailing behind as my friends whipped around some bushes and hid. I didn’t see them hide and kept running past the bushes. I went feet-first into the quicksand-like cow shite. It was thick so I could barely move. I was sinking up to my neck as I was screaming. My left arm was over my head—I guess by the awkward way I fell in— but the rest of me was completely submerged.
There was a little branch from a tree overhanging me. It was dumb luck I happened to grab it as I flailed my arm begging for help. I pulled myself out of the muck as the other kids were yelling and watching from the edge.. My friends were horrified at first, then everybody laughed at me when I finally got all the way out. I remember crying because I was mad they laughed.
So, yeah. I nearly drowned in cow shite. I remember making the walk-of-shame home, snuck past my mom and took a shower. She asked me what happened later and I told her I fell in a mud puddle. Looking back, no way she bought that story considering my clothes. But she never gave me grief for it.

Probably can’t remember all:
* parachute malfunction took me down well below 500 ‘ before the reserve opened
* standing beside a good friend in Nam - sniper chose him
* sitting right seat in a Lear 24 (showing my age), nose gear rotated 45* on takeoff & would not retract
* out of fuel in a twin beach one night headed into ElCajon, CA.
* caught in a lightning storm above the tree line in the Tetons
* probably more times than I know in Nam
& one last jump story. On a relative work jump with seven others. Dummy did not separate at pull time & as his canopy opened, he swung through my lines & his.collapsed. He froze, would not cut away or release his chute. So he Hangs on to me around the knees, with his chute just flapping around. If it would have wrapped mine, there would have been noting to do except make peace with the Man.
Youth is a wonderful thing!

I missed a head-on crash with a tool body F250 that came across the median by a few inches. The guy who was in the right lane saw it happening and got on the shoulder, which let me get over, which saved my life.
to that random guy

Slipped on snow and slid down a mountain. Caught the only tree for a few hundred yards, Could have been bad if not for the tree.
Helped a friend and his grandpa build a treehouse when I was ~6. I grabbed an extension cord that was frayed. It knocked me out.
