Good luck. As product, payroll, lease, etc costs rise the mom and pop old cheap vets are closing their doors across the country.
Covid boom for vets allowed the industry to catch up as they were always behind with service price increases. Just like human medicine, as we advance with science, a price tag comes along with that.
you failed to mention the other big expense: school debt. Its also noteworthy that many independent clinics are being purchased by larger vet med corporations (like Banfield). Less choices, less competition.

Two golden retrievers. You know what is better than 1 cute needy dog? Two cute needy dogs.

16 year old Maltese and a Calico cat that's who knows how old and a total bitch. I had to put my 17 year old Rat Terrier down this past summer. Going to pick up my new Feist puppy on the 30th. He comes from good bloodlines and my son and I are going to take a hack at training a squirrel dog together.

Our home pets have all peacefully expired after long long lives and the choice was made to not replace them.
We have a yard full of birds with incoming hummingbirds being of most interest at the moment.
We see a lot of other wildlife as well. They are our replacement companions.

3 dogs 1 cat and however many squirrels happen to be in the attic on any given day. Those things are crafty and must run recon patrols while I am blocking off their access. If they can't squeeze through it, they will chew through it.

Indeed. Corporate vets are gobbling up quality smaller vets and medicine is not quality and prices high. I have a great solo vet who is in it for the animals and will never go Corp. I also believe in minimal vet care. No vaccines (which are posion) after puppy vacc and 1st adult set) and hw tests and prevention. And obviously exams yearly / bloodwork to make sore all is ok. My pets live long and healthy lives and I think it’s bc of less toxins and pharmaceuticals.

My wife's two cats and my daughters 65 lb dog. I love animals but don't want to take care of one so I don't have one. It works great. I can walk the dog and play with him when I want but if it's cold and raining, his owner gets the privilege.

Way too freaking many. My husband has 5 hunting dogs and a coop full of pigeons to work those dogs. We have an Aussie Doodle & a cavalier inside and I have 10 ducks too. We should own stock in Tractor Supply for all the food we go thru, lol.

I lost my black Lab in 2022 and then my Cairn Terrier a year later. Had them both 12 years since babies. I’m single. Not sure I want another. Will probably get a rescue if I do.

We had a dog and a cat until recently. Our 12-year-old dog had to be put to sleep unfortunately.
The cat was my teenaged daughter's idea that I reluctantly allowed. I'm not the biggest cat person.
She was going to take care of it, keep him in the back of the house, pay for everything etc etc. Yeah, guess who deals with the thing 90% of the time
