Best advice I ever got.

Don’f look at it as a lifetime decision. Just know that you won’t get high or drunk today

I've been there. Years of clean. I'm good being high 24/7 now.

Different stages in life present different needs.

I feel fortunate to be able to fully function the way I do. It's not for most

I like to help others that are in early recovery. I speak at sober houses etc. Also helped a guy quit on this website. Keep on keeping on people.

I was pretty sure that I had a problem with alcohol from the beginning when I used to go to bars in NY at age 16 (drinking age was 18). I “quit” hundreds of times in college, law school, and thereafter.

I finally made the decision to truly get sober for the first time at age 34 in December 1985. I did fine until I decided, after picking up a 5 year chip, that I didn’t need AA any longer. I stayed dry for a few years after stopping AA. I was having serious thoughts of drinking again but was too proud to admit it and go back to AA. I had a drink on a golf trip to Doral in January 1994. By October 1995 I was an out of control crazy person again, going out and closing bars every night.

I got sober again on November 12, 1995 at age 44 and have been sober since. So, out of approximately the last 34 years I have been sober about 32 of them. I tell folks who go back out not to discount prior time sober.

I hear people say that things get better when they quit drinking. I do not really agree with that. I have gotten better but “things” really haven’t – that’s life. Sober people go through divorce, death of family and friends, losing jobs, etc. I’m going through a shitty period right now in the “loss” department. But I am not medicating myself throughout this (although I have to admit being “comfortably numb” is appealing). I am quite certain I will get through this and will be just fine.

Most of my friends drink. I just cannot. I commend all who have made the decision to raise the white flag and declare victory over any addiction.

Best part is being the sober designated driver and now watching the drunks slobber all over themselves

Finally recovered from last night.

Kidding aside, to everyone who wanted and received help (and stuck to it) I salute you.

Clean, I'm glad for you. I'm always happy to hear of someone that has taken back control of their lives. My BIL couldn't do it and it was very sad to see such of waste of life and talents go away too soon.
Keep on keeping on brother.

In. Was addicted to vag for many a year. It cost me all of my money and gave me 4 humans to take care of. Nature is a jealous bitch.
