My GP was able to prescribe Xanax and Paxil. Sounds like you've got a lot going on. Seeking some counseling along with meds will help. Mine was a straight up chemical imbalance of some sort brought on by who knows what(maybe all the party drugs I did in college) My life is 10 times more stressful now than when I was having panic attacks and I'm not suffering from them at all now. Everyone's brain is different though Good luck to you.

Had my first panic at a bar in college after finals that I aced. So what the hell did I have to be anxious about?

If you're scared because your wife "found a lump" or you lost a job? That's situational. Just called living. But if life is sailing along and you are scared shitless it's anxiety DISORDER. that's why it's called a disorder. Both need attention, but situational will usually pass.

Panic attacks started for me about 7 months ago. It was very strange. Out of nowhere, I would get this weird feeling and I would be very aware of my increased heartbeat. My hands and feet would tingle and I would feel faint. An overwhelming sense of doom would come over me, and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Unfortunately, they would last for a couple of hours, not 30 minutes like many people with panic disorder. This later turned into extreme anxiety. I was a zombie, I couldn't remember anything, I couldn't sleep or eat. I went 3 days without sleep. I would just lay in bed wide awake with adrenaline for no reason. Even when I felt like I was about to cross the sleep barrier, I would have a sudden jolt wake me up. It was horrible.

You have to accept it though. It's probably not going to just go away, but it can be controlled. Relax and control your stress levels. Deep breathing exercises have helped control my panic attacks. If I feel one coming on, I just focus on my breathing and it goes away.

You know all those things you worry about that are statistically unlikely to happen to you, but worry you anyway?

They really are going to happen to you.

I used to get them pretty bad but I've been learning how to stop them before they flair up. I usually hold my breath for a second and just breathe very slow and concentrate on my breaths. If im very stressed though I do sometimes melt. Go see a psychiatrist (non pill prescribing) first before you make any decisions.

If you are having this anxiety over nothing and just daily, please do get yourself some help. Bottling it in is just awful

Hypnosis will fix it. There are psychologists who specialize in hypnosis to relieve anxiety. After a session you will be relaxed as butter. Take a tape recorder and record the sessions. If you get anxious later, play the tape with headphones and you will relax. After several months you will learn how to be calm and relaxed. During these sessions you will feel relaxation taking place, loving, healing, nurturing, soothing. Your body, your mind, your emotions, and your spirit. It works.

Absolutely and that is one of the things a lot of people dont understand. I told people I was having panic attacks and they would say just take some time off or get better sleep and would tell them I get them when I'm chilled out relaxing on the couch just as easily as when I'm working on a stressful activity. That is what is so freaky about panic disorder is it comes out of no where and you just feel like you are about to die.

The feeling that I'm about to die is most prevalent during these spells along with the severe desire to leave wherever I'm at and go to a 'safe zone'

I struggle with anxiety as a result of my ADHD. However, the OT told that it isn't real and that I need to suck it up.

Be careful with that. You don't want to get to the point where you don't leave your house. I know you may not want to, but it's important to get out and be social.

I had three panic attacks back in 2012 and you're correct. They suck!!! Scariest, most uncomfortable physical sensation I've ever experienced. Two of mine were during hangovers. The last one was triggered by eating too many sweets one night after driving home the night of the 2012 Iron Bowl. Had to pull off the highway and stop at a gas station to get some Bayer asparin just in case. Was shaking uncontrollably. First two resulted in emergency room visits the last one I went by the emergency room but didn't get admitted. Just sat down and rode it out.

Haven't had one since mainly due to the fact I got my heart checked out (clean bill of health) and I now make sure to load up on Gatorade (electrolytes) the morning after drinking fairly heavily.
