Because they’re too long. I don’t like 1980s short shorts, but I want them hitting above my knees.
To answer the OP I own zero cargo shorts or pants.

I own a couple pair and wear them often in summer. If I'm wearing shorts I'm obviously not worried about dressing to impress anyone. The amount of figs who judge people wearing cargo shorts while also wearing shorts is hilarious. Wear pants if you wanna judge someone asswipe.

At least a dozen, most I bought at Sam's Club and are the IRON Clothing brand which are about $11 a piece. I splurged once and bough a pair from HUK Fishing. I wear them since they are comfortable as hell.

The closest I’ve got is aftco shorts with the pockets on the front. Don’t own any knee lengths with pockets on the side

I don't have any, I probably haven't worn a pair for close to 10 years, but above is the correct answer. If I find a pair I like, I'll definitely buy them.
