re: How many on here live in an HOA?

I've made two complaints to my HOA and not on a particular neighbor. First one was there's a particular landscape guy (not one of the big well established companies but just 1 guy doing it on his own) who did a couple of houses and was just blowing his grass clippings in the street and walking away from that. It looked like shite. When it got rained on, it just sat there and basically glued to the street.
The 2nd complaint was people parking out in front of their house as a permanent solution. On the way out to do things, I felt like I was on the end of Escape from New York, dodging and swerving around vehicles on both sides of the street.
Both issues were against covenant restrictions and were promptly resolved, end of discussion. Now, with no HOA if you approach the homeowners or the landscape guy, they're going to tell you to get fricked. That's why I like having an HOA. They can still say that, but will owe money in a fine that will keep growing as long as they don't pay it and/or resolve the issue.

Fair enough.
I can't really speak for the other posters but I can speak for myself. Personally, I loathe HOAs. But I'm also somebody who won't even live in an incorporated area.
I definitely value my freedom, independence and ownership of my property more than most.
I won't say I'm a loner but I think one of the big differences that divides the two sides is how you view community. Some have a more inclusive, all-in view of their property and their neighborhood. They take more ownership of things outside their property lines.
For us, we draw hard lines at our property line. Anything outside our property lines doesn't concern us. Or I should say, it's not that it doesn't concern us, we just don't feel any ownership or connection to it. Mainly because we legally know we don't so it's not worth stressing over. People like us are more likely to live in unincorporated small towns(CDPs) or on acreage in rural areas

Helps to get to know the area in the country where you are planning on moving first. I have no issues where I'm at. You can go down the road a mile or two and find trash, but that's just part of living in Louisiana.

I do, and, yes. My hoa isn't overbearing.

No I was just kidding around. There is a blue house near ours though

This is how you sell out, bit by bit.

Awesome explaination bro. Glad you could enlighten us with so much info.
My parents bought their home in 2005 and it recently appraised for $215k more than they bought it for.
That enough info to show you that your post is horseshite? Or are you going to double down that property values in HOAs don't rise?

I respect the right of a group of people to come together and make rules about the place they live in, which can then be adjusted by democratic vote. As long as there is an option to live elsewhere without the HOA, I’m good with individual neighborhoods doing this. Some of you would prefer to have your neighborhoods turn into the slums so you can have the ability to park your car on your front yard

I don't understand why he thinks a neighborhood with an HOA cannot have property values increase

Me either. I understand not wanting to live in one because you want to have the right to park a mobile home in your front yard, but I don’t get the idea that property values in HOA neighborhoods never go up. It’s asinine.

Only if you are unable to do such things for yourself, like the elderly or handicapped.

Valuation of your home has nothing to do with the HOA

Seems to be the vast majority of replies defending that nonsense.
It also was the exact logic of the poster I replied to. Mongoloid.

I love how this board makes HOA's out to be some sort of gestapo group.

Take care of your shite and there's a slim chance you'll even know an HOA exists.

I don't have as much of a problem with the idea of HOAs as I do with the actual developments.
The newer ones that I see...the houses are super close together and the streets are really narrow.
