is it worth it to pay money to someone on what you can and cant do on your own property?

If I wanted to give property to someone else I would. Its a better deal than handing my property rights over at sale to some third party entity that I pay for the privilege.

I would rather have 10 trashy neighbors than have a group of uptight, entitled pricks tell me what I can and can't do with my property.

Amen to that. These folks are way less likely to call the laws in over petty things

Simple live in the country where you don't have to see your neighbor or give a damn what he puts in his yard. I dunno how y'all live in a place where your neighbor two doors down can hear you fart on your patio. I'm so thankful I don't live the city/neighborhood/yessirbossiwillpaintmyhousethecoloryouapprove life

It's not going to go up... Your property value is going to stay stagnant in a subdivision, and that's IF the market stays consistant. I'm not going to be miserable in my own home for 15 years because I MIGHT lose 5 grand in property value over that time period. Well worth it IMO. The flood skyrocketed my property value, so I'm well ahead at this point anyway.

I just found out the other day there is such a thing as a voluntary HOA. The reason I found out is bc the house I was looking at volunteered and their neighbor quite obviously did not. Did not make an offer.

Got one neighbor that has a collection of rusted up late 90s Hondas sitting all around his half acre. Same guy has a large "burn pile" in his front yard that hasnt been burned in the 3 years we've lived here.

Another neighbor has about 13 different storage shacks scattered along his yard in various shapes of disrepair.

Theres a few rentals on the street that just flat out dont do yardwork. They're both on about an acre of land too. Just never mow or anything.

You must live around several other pipeline baws

And you still bought there??? That's too many red flags for me.

They are worthless. Don’t enforce what needs to be inforced. All they worry about is collecting money. Pay somebody $1000 a month to do about 3 hours worth of work cutting the entrance of neighborhood.

I buy the home I like. If it has an HOA then so be it.
If you let an HOA keep you away from a beautiful home then you are a derp.

I swear the realtor paid the neighbors off to behave themselves for a month when we were signing.

My property value (in a subdivision) has gone up $40K in 2.5 years so agree to disagree
