I like what I do about 75% of the time but give me 5 million and I'd retire tomorrow. 23 years of this is long enough

I do. I had an "American Beauty" type midlife crisis a couple years ago and quit my soulless job working for a copier company and became a cook (which was always one of my dream jobs). It took me until my 40s to do it but for the first time in my life I look forward to going to work every day.
It's pretty amazing. I wake up at noon, go in, crank music, get lost in the rush, and no one fricks with me ever.
It's only possible with my military retirement pay though. It doesn't pay shite.

with a billion dollars i would become the kingmaker/deepstate/shot-caller of my tiny hometown. that would be a full time job.

Love my job but would leave at light speed for 1 billion

Most days I really do enjoy my job, but there are some days I don’t feel like being bothered. If i won a major lottery, I’d actually buy the company from the owner and hire appropriate staffing to allow myself to go part-time.

I know one person. He's an inshore charter captain in Charleston. He'd still be out fishing everyday if he won the lotto but he'd be more selective about who he took out with him. And he'd probably invest in some upgrades.

I hate mine. I'd quit in a heartbeat and open a small hole in the wall BBQ shack here in Lexington.

I did. But the last couple of years of the pandemic made working in the hospital suck. All the camaraderie is gone that we had with other departments. Lot of people went to travel and they’re all replaced with travelers.
Also PT in the hospital used to be pretty rewarding but as the patients trend older and sicker and more demented with more service lines moving outpatient…it just sucks.
I started a new 5 part certification program to transition back to outpatient/sports med type work in the near future with the goal of opening a small clinic with my wife. At 41 I feel like it’s kind of now or never and I’d rather fail than never give it a shot.

Hellssss no.
I would gladly retire tomorrow and wake up everyday and figure out what i was gonna do that day.
I want nothing to do with having to work

I'm apathetic towards my job/field, but I love the flexibility/lifestyle that it affords me.
I don't know that there is a "real" job out there that I would enjoy. It would have to be something that involved travel, food, and drink but I also realize that is unrealistic

I love what I do. I work with high school students at a church and as a fishing guide on Toledo bend and Sam Rayburn. No complaints here at all!

When you get paid to do something and your life's obligations necessitate getting paid, you lose independence over when, where, how, and how often you do it. That's the difference in work and a hobby. Peyton Manning clearly loves playing football, but I guarantee you there were days, or even entire seasons where it felt like work because of the inability to control the above 4 things.

I love the work I did that got me where I am, the work I still am involved in to a certain degree. When you hit a certain level, you could be selling widgets, professional services, or Cuban sandwiches. It's just running a business. I wouldn't say I love that part, but I'm pretty good at it. It is what it is.
I'd definitely retire if I won the lottery, but I wouldn't disappear immediately. I do love my company and most of the people I work with, so I wouldn't burn any bridges.

I wouldn’t do my job for free as the money is one of the reasons I love it. But I do love what I do and get paid well to do it. Even if I won $1 Billion I’d have to do something. Sitting idle turns me into a crazy person.

I love my job. If I were to win 1 billion I would probably still work but not where I am. My true love is farming. My grandfather, father, brother and I did it together. Decided to leave because of the pay and stress. If I have that kind of money, I’m doing it purely for the joy it brought me and definitely not for the pay.

I think I would enjoy my job if I were being paid significantly more, could have more WFH flexibility, and if I had much better administrators above me.
Currently? Hell no.

I get to work from home, and honestly I don't really put in a lot of time. And when I do work, I'm watching TV or listening to a podcast, likely sipping something I wouldn't be able to sip on at work unless I was hiding it in a water bottle.
