I don’t like sitting on cash. I’ve made that mistake in the past. Missed huge opportunities in 2010 being gun shy.

I had been holding onto a good bit from my year end bonus that was paid out in January, but I deployed most of it in this huge panic sell off. My portfolio is healthy, and has a high degree of liquidity, and I’m not worried about being fired. But if I were to be, I have enough socked away that is easily accessible to stretch out any jobless duration unless it was a wildly unforeseen calamity like the depression.

Well I am proud of you for improving your spending/saving habits over the last 2 years because it’s hard to save $30,000 if you’re “ducking” strippers especially at $1,200 per duck:

Just spent 1200 dollars to duck stripper at Penthouse

I’m kinda scared of the number of PI’s on this board. I haven’t done anything wrong, but man.

Keep about 20K readily available
Never know about the unexpected
Any appliance going out, emergency car repair etc. etc. . .

Tomorrow we’re having an approximate 50’ elm tree cut down. About 30’ from the house.
Was struck by lightning and now has pretty good size “widow maker hanging over the house.

Cost $2500. Tree cut, hauled away, stump ground.

You just never know. Be prepared

I had to tap into mine at 26 when I was laid off five four years ago. Basically wiped the entire thing out, not much, like $8K.

I'm the minority in this sea of ballers, but a lot of people wish they had $30,000 in a savings at that age.

Mortgage, auto insurance, keeping the lights on, and feeding ourselves yes 30k would not take that long to blow through.

This is not the least bit far fetched

I couldn’t make it in two months on $30k. I’d have to figure out a bigger plan.

Yeah if you are keeping up with the Jones’

I didn’t slow down my life at all and only burned through like $6,800 in like six months. I drank and bought a good amount of drugs too.

Never have. I kept 4 months takehome pay in savings acct.

When the market tanked in april i moved it from savings acct to ameritrade. Bought 80% mutual funds 20% stocks. Looks like a great move.

Some of y’all must not have kids or a mortgage. 30k for 10 months of living expenses including bills/mortgage is extravagant for y’all?
