My parents did something I think most should do. I paid for my first semester. If I made good grades (C or better) they reimbursed me to pay for the next semester. If I took 5 classes and made good grades in 4 of the 5 then they reimbursed me 80%. It was a good lesson on responsibility.

My parents had a college fund for each of the kids so we had a set amount for college. I also had TOPS at LSU so most of that money went to living expenses. My dad had a major medical event halfway through my junior year, so that money kind of went away, and I paid for the rest of my way through.

I'm just pointing out that it's impossible to not get buried with loans if you don't have help. Tuition and rent are twice as expensive, it doesn't matter how much an 18 year old kid works, they can't pay for it.

Well, it probably is your fault. People your age are generally terrible with money and are responsible for a lot of the shite that we have to deal with as a country.

I'm not whining, just trying to educate your ignorant arse, which is probably futile.

Keep trying, you'll learn one day.

As far as school costs, not my fault they are so ridiculously high now.

As far as money, you know what assuming does, right? You don't know me from Adam yet you want to assume how my life is? GTFOH, damn NTAC.

Had academic scholly the first 3 semesters until I had too much fun and lost it. Dad was not happy but he stepped up.

Deal from parents is they paid for degree #1. On my own after that, although truth is they helped quite a bit from an everyday life perspective even though they weren't technically paying for school.

We'll probably plan to do something similar.

I’ve noticed a common theme with some of these youngsters: all of their problems are someone else’s fault.

for example: mungo maybe should’ve went to trade school if he couldn’t afford college. Or should’ve picked a career allowing him to pay off his student loans. Instead: it’s a previous generations fault education is sooo expensive waahhhh

TOPS paid for most of it. Over the course of 5 years I paid 5K and my parents paid about 15K

Parents paid for my sister's paralegal (2 year at McNeese for the most part)

Parents only paid my first semester...after that I was paying my own way with Student Loans and small scholarships. When I was done I had $15,000 in loans to pay back..and I was so glad to finish paying them off.

TOPS didn't exist back then.

Raises hand. Paid for college, room and board, food, and fraternity. I am very lucky.

All 5 years of it

ETA:

But I did have to have miserable hard labor jobs every summer in Baton Rouge as penance. But I got to keep the money.

And I have to pay for my MBA through loans. Well the half that my company won't pay for.

My parents helped out. I got TOPs and earned a scholarship. I’m paying back my share of my student loans now.

I paid off my student loans very, very quickly because my parents paid for most of my school. Doesn't change the facts that 99% of people can't pay for it because the cost has doubled in 20 years.

If you could explain how it's the current students fault that would be great.

Eta: and I had TOPS and a scholarship, but because my parents are white and middle class it wasn't much.

My parents paid my tuition, room and board as long as I kept my grades up to at least a 3.0 GPA. This is pre TOPS back in the early 1990's. I did have to work for my spending money. I had a part time job paying cash on the weekends where I made $72 per week. This was enough for me to buy long neck beers instead of having to drink Natty Light draft on the cheap.

so then explain how it's older people's fault for the expensive cost of your tuition. that apparently you have already paid off, but are throwing a fit in this thread about. (strange)
