Parents paid for my undergrad and grad school but I married into some student loan debt. Luckily she makes good money though and has no problem paying it off.

I paid my own way. Scholarships and working while in school. Grad school, I worked and borrowed. Took me 10 years to pay it off after completion.
Paid my children's education.

My parents paid but I had a partial academic scholarship. It covered about 3/4ths of my tuition.
The more significant expenses that they covered were housing and food. I only lived on campus for one semester, then I moved into the fraternity house for a year. Then I lived in a house with a few dudes for the rest of school. Looking back, that was expensive af.
ETA I also lost my academic scholarship during my junior year because my grades dropped below the threshold because I was fratting too hard. My dad flipped out, threatened my life, and then paid for my school anyway because he's a great man.

My parents paid for mine. My first semester's tuition for 15 hours was $242.50.

Parents gave me some money ($300) for my rent and paid my car insurance while I was in school. Otherwise it was scholarships, loans, and work. This was for undergraduate and grad school. Still having that $500 or so a month I did not have to cover was a huge help.

I had a full music scholarship that covered 4 years... my Dad paid for the 5th, but by then I qualified for in-state tuition as he had moved back to BR. He also picked up housing and books/supplies.
Going out money was all on me.
I feel very fortunate to have graduated debt free.

My parents were OT poor, so I had to pay my own way. It's not that hard really.
It's really easy actually. Fill out a FAFSA, it's just expensive AF

My parents help out, but I pay them back so I’m not indebted to a federal student loan shark. Also, my GI Bill helps a little bit, I’m a reservist though so it doesn’t help much, I just use that money to pay my dad back. And my grandparents have a START account for all their grandkids.

My first time in college my parents paid for everything including room and board plus gave me a $300 / month check for whatever I wanted.
I screwed that up and lost TOPS and played around. I dropped out but eventually went back years later. My parents didn't help when I returned. Between working, scholarships and some student loans, I finished. Going back was hard but absolutely worth it.

My parents are poor so there was no college fund for me.
I can remember asking my dad about if I had a college fund when I was young (like 10 or so). Just heard kids at school talking about going to college when they got older. He pointed to my head and said "that's your college fund".
Honestly...I don't see college as something that you HAVE to pay for your kids. Each person's situation is different. If a parent wants to and has the means...that's great. If they don't or only want to pay for some of it or they don't have the means...doesn't make them a horrible parent either.
Course..I'm not a parent and the way the OT works...that means my opinion doesn't mean shite.

Did your parents pay for your college education? If not, did they pay for part of it?
Nope and I'm actually glad they didn't. It wasn't their responsibility. They encouraged me throughout but did not pay for my schooling. It's how it should be IMO.

When did you go to college?
Posted on 8/13/18 at 8:32 am to Cowboyfan89
No. I had scholarships. When I dicked around and those ran out, I started busting arse working something absurd like 84 hours a week in the summers to be able to pay for the rest of my school with part-time jobs during the school year to interfere with my studies as little as possible.
My parents did give me free room and board while I was in my second college career, though.
If I ever have the opportunity to pay for college, the kid's going to know up front that the money's there, but it's not his. He'll get scholarships and loans on his own to pay for college and know that he's mortgaging his future. Get a diploma in a worthwhile field with a 3.0, and daddy steps in and pays four years of loans off free and clear. Get a 2.5 or a degree in advanced liberal navel gazing and take 7 years to do it, and you're on your own, big boy and daddy's getting a boat.

Parents didn't have to pay a penny. GI bill and my hard work.

College is twice as expensive adjusted for inflation as when you went.
