I'm 6' 197 and am not fat although I've a bit of a beer but i should probably drop 10 or 15.

There was a study which showed that from something like 1950 to 1988, NFL players had a higher lifespan than an average male.
What is interesting about that study is that the BMI of the average lineman at that time was around 30 and there was an decrease in life expectancy when accounting for position and BMI > 30. Only 1% of football players had a BMI > 35.
Weight of football players have skyrocketed since then.
For example, the average BMI of the Bears line in 2003 was 37.4. RBs have a BMI equal to linemen of the past.
