I did one as part of a Pennington study on the possibility of a drug being used for apnea. I spent a night sleeping at Pennington with a bunch of electrodes hooked up to me (my apnea was off the freaking chart).

It's annoying with all the shite wired to your face, but in the end for me, it was well worth it and getting CPAP.
The CPAP has transformed my sleeping habits and life.

I did, wasn't bad. I have severe apnea, but I can't sleep with the mask I have now. Any recs for a better one? I literally fall asleep everyday at work. Good thing I have the office to myself.

You just gotta deal and get used to it. May take ~month before you sleep like it's not there. I figured.. I'm not sleeping worth a shite anyway, just keep dealing. I started noticing a difference in how I felt within 2 weeks.

Went to a clinic. Told me I was worst case they've ever seen but maybe they tell everyone that.
Hooked me up to all kinds of monitoring equip. Then let me be. I felt like I slept great but they said if that is what you consider a good night, they would hate to see a bad night.
Sent all of the info to my doc. He ordered the CPAP for me.

I had the exact same experience. My snoring is much better, however I must admit I am in the minority. The C-Pap machine doesn’t make me sleep any better. If anything, I sleep worse.

Then they better have some decent looking nurses to help me go to sleep

I’ve had a few. Bring your own pillow and make sure the room temp can be adjusted to your desired temp. I had one where the room was 10 degrees cooler than I was used to, the tech couldn’t adjust it and I basically shivered all night. Hopefully all you have is sleep apnea, that’s pretty easy and straight forward to treat.

Me, years ago. Was pretty dreadful trying to sleep with all that stuff attached to you.
This was my experience. One of the worst nights' sleep of my life. I wish I had done an at home test.
Posted on 4/19/22 at 1:48 pm to ElDawgHawg
My test was 13 - 14 years ago, I think. Back then, I reported to the sleep center, where what seemed to be 20 electrodes or contact points were attached to me. From there, wires were attached to the electrodes and I went to sleep. The wires were cumbersome, but with the exception of my nightly trip to the bathroom, I managed to sleep. From there, it was determined that I had sleep apnea, so I returned the next week. I wore a CPAP mask, and a technician experimented with various pressure settings throughout the night to determine which air flow setting allowed me to get my best sleep.
While I don't remember just how long ago my test was, my insurance provides for a new CPAP machine every 5 years, and right now, I'm on machine #3, which is currently under recall from Phillips, but that's another story for another day.
Based on the experiences of other people, it seems that the test is simpler now than when I did it, but regardless, good luck.

You get to try to sleep with a bunch of wires attached all over you and a camera watching you. I don't recommend sleeping in the buff.

Did mine earlier this year. The first test they hook up monitors all over you to test for everything, second test you come back and wear the mask so that they can see how much air pressure you need and then they set you up for the machine.
I was getting up 2-5 times every night to go to the bathroom for umpteen years, just thought I was a light sleeper, but as soon as I got fitted with the machine I have slept thru the night every night.
Should have done it sooner.

I have been having my cpap machine for a decade and I am still fighting it. I try it just about every night and rip it off because I can't fall asleep with it on. Full face mask fighter pilot style.
Posted on 4/19/22 at 1:59 pm to ElDawgHawg
I don’t know anyone that’s done a sleep study and they didn’t recommend a mask
Posted on 4/19/22 at 2:01 pm to bbarras85
If you're still wearing the full fighter pilot mask, and fighting with it nightly, have you tried other types? Depending on your provider, and the manufacturers they sell/suppoert, you should have access to other types/styles.
My current mask still covers both my nose and mouth, but I don't find it nearly as unwieldy as the fighter pilot mask you have. But as each person is different in what they find comfortable or tolerable, good luck in finding something that works for you.

Mine was bad. Not the experience-the results. On bipap now and am never tired.

Side note…my neighbor owns a company that sells the at home tests and cpap machines. The guy is fricken loaded
